That will do... That will do. Sure rookie ball but the hoop and openings will be there for him in real games.

That's why his quick release is so encouraging.

The thing is, he can easily knock down 3's from way beyond the arc. You can't defend that. He's simply one of the best shooters ever. And that's his floor. I now get why the FO was crazy for him. Sure, his handle isn't great, and he's not very athletic, but he'll feast off of closouts, due to his ridiculous shooting. He'll average better than 12ppg this year, IMO.

I just hope Thibs plays him enough to average a good amount of points

Yeah, and at 6'8". He won't get blocked much. And Mirotic even moreso. The Bulls are suddenly a top 3-point team, IMO.

His shot looks effortless and it looks like once he crosses half court he could knock down the 3.

Paul Pierce just became the floor.

What will make him even better is the fact he will be the 4th or 5th option.

If you really want to get ridiculous Larry Legend could be his ceiling. I'll stick to Paul Pierce for now.

Sometimes you just fall into a shitload of luck. It would be nice if Dougie and Mirotic were that.

Is Doug McDermott the real deal? Class of 2014 rookies sure believe so.
NBA.com had a rookie survey where the rookies voted. Here is where McDermott ranked:
-Doug McDermott ranked 2nd (tied with Wiggins) behind Jabari Parker when asked "who will win Rookie of the Year".
-Doug McDermott ranked 2nd behind Jabari Parker when asked "who will have the best NBA Career".
-Doug McDermott ranked 5th when asked "which rookie is being overlooked".
-Doug McDermott ranked 1st when asked "which rookie is the best shooter".
-Doug McDermott ranked 4th when asked "which rookie is the best playmaker". (2 ranked ahead of him are all Point Guards and Kyle Anderson)

I thought the answer to every survey question was Popovich.

What's the CSFMB consensus on McDermott so far?

Any word on when he's expected to overtake Paul Pierce and Larry Bird in the NBA pantheon?

Nobody will know for another 2-3 years because of the way Thibs uses (or doesn't use) rookies. Injuries have forced playing time, but he hasn't been especially good during those opportunities.

He's ahead of Snell but 12 minutes a night just won't cut it.

More evidence that players are terrible at evaluating fellow players.

Didn't like the McDermott pick at the time and it's in one of the other threads can't remember which will find if pressed. I thought he would be better after watching the summer league. His shooting hasn't been as good as advertised. He is missing a number of open jump shots. He can't guard and they gave up two top 20 picks in a deep draft to get him. He was also a four yr. player which means he should be more ready to play in the nba

So in conclusion: he's a total bust-out.

Not yet. In reading the evaluations there have been alot of people missing on him. Comparing him to Mark Aguirre Paul Pierce and a few others is a real stretch. If he can turn into Wally Sczerbiak that will be a good thing. I also saw Glen Rice and that is also a no. He is really beginning to look like a situational player and if he is then that will be problematic because he was taken 11th in a draft that was reputed to be strong and the Bulls gave up two top 20 picks to acquire him. There will be guys taken later that will be better.

You don't get a start with the 11th pick unless you get really lucky.

If you get a contributor you made a good pick. We'll see.

He has the look of an 8th or 9th man and if that is the case then it was a bad pick. You should be able to get a starting player with a top half of the first round pick. There were a number of people that were projecting him to be the opening day starter and quite frankly Dunleavy has outplayed him.

The Bulls over the last 8 years or so have made a lot of great picks. Just look at all the lower end guys they have developed...I'm impressed.

The two things that I believed he would struggle with he has. Can't create off the dribble and can't defend. I thought he would be more of knock down shooter when open though. He has been a better finisher at the rim than I thought he would be however. There were four or five guys that went later that I believed would be better picks. None of the rookies are really standing out but he is a different case because he was a four yr. college player and should have been more ready to contribute in the NBA.

We've decided that a rookie that doesn't get a lot of playing time is a bust after 12 games?

Its actually been 14 games. I'm not going to declare him a bust but the only thing that I can see him improving is his jump shot (in terms of percentage). He will get better as a team defender because he will become more knowledgeable about the schemes Thibs uses. But he will never be good at one on one defending and I don't think he will ever be able to create off the dribble. Sometimes guys are what they are and no amount of it being "too early" is going to change that. There are a number of tough covers at the three position in the nba and I just can't see him guarding and in order to offset it he will have to be in the 18-20 points a game scoring range and I don't see that happening. Guys picked at No. 11 in an allegedly deep draft should be viewed as a potential starter. I will not go so far to say he is a bust because to me a bust is a guy that will be out the league in 3-4 yrs.
