So they can't trade him cuz that will look bad, right? Instead will get nothing for him.

Today Bernstein said Butler is a max contract player and he sounded dead serious. WTF, really?

I agree. His game reminds me of Pippens. He doesnt have scottie's size, speed and power but he is a smaller version. He now goes to the hole with confidence, he's fearless, he finishes at the hoop and is a mediocre shooter. But he dazzles on defense. Anything he gives on offense is a plus and he's giving a lot of offense. Great defense creates offensive opportunities. He is definitely a max contract. No doubt.

All star and defensive player of the year. Butler = MAX $$$$$

His ceiling is Lance Stephenson, and Lance didn't get shit for his last contract.

He's a nice player, great guy, but not a max contract. Anything over $12 million per year would be ludicrous to give him.

He is not Lance Stephenson. Stephenson is a better ball handler shooter and passer. Butler is a better defender and finisher at the rim. Their games are not comparable at all. Butler is also far more disciplined as a player. He is not as mistake prone as Stephenson.

Okay, maybe his ceiling is Stephen Jackson.

He's not immature like Stephenson either. That's what cost him. Someone will offer him $12M+ if he keeps playing near this level.

If he can be that guy you def. Pay him. Jackson was one competitive dude. Wouldn't max him out but he is working his, way into a 14-15 mil a yr guy. He is a lockdown defender who provides some offense. Jackson was more versatile offensively but they are more comparable particularly as competitors

Other than being a good defender and inconsistent shooter he's nothing like Pippen. Pippen was a point forward - both able to rebound, handle and distribute the ball That's why he was great. I love Butler's game, but he is not close to Pippen as an overall player (yet).

Not as good as Pippen or never will be I agree. But his game is similar. Butler is not a Point Forward but Butler creates offensive for the team with defense like Pippen. They both lack an offensive game in the half court but both run the floor and finish. Pippens length in the passing lanes was under rated. Butler nor anyone can ever match that.

I dont remember seeing a player in recent memory improve like Butler has and so quickly. Im not sure how good he will be. To me and argument can be made that Butler is more valuable to a team winning than carmelo anthony is.

Butler doesn't create offense for others. Not sure where you are getting that.

I think Butler is a decent player, but I wonder if some of the hyperbole stems from people looking to fill the uncomfortable feelings void left by Derrick and his camp.

I think that nowhere is that more true than it is with the Bulls coach.

Be patient my friend. The more confidence he gets the better he becomes. The playmaking ability will come. He's the best player on the team. Noah and Gasol are #2 and 3 and Delicate Rose is competing for #4 with Taj. #Truth

You're putting way too much stock into a couple weeks worth of November games. I expect that shit from long time guy, but not you. Rose or Noah are the best players on the team if everybody is 100%, but Rose basically doesn't count, so go with Noah.

 I'm not serious. I do like what I see. While the scoring will go down his ability to get to the line will help. He's already an all nba defender.

You misunderstood. He creates offense for his team by playing defense. Steals cause fast breaks. Guarding a guy like he does causes turnovers which create scoring opportunities the other way. I know he doesnt create on the offensive end like Pipp but he "creates" by playing defense very well. As you were.

Are the people in this thread saying he's not a max player suggesting he doesn't deserve a max contract or he wouldn't get one? Because he's almost certainly going to get one if he maintains this form, and he was quite justified in turning down the Bulls' extension offers.

If he's not an allstar this year there's something wrong with the process.

I may have fallen out of touch with the league over the past couple years, but I've watched every single Bulls game this year and he's been the best 2 guard on the floor in just about every one. Maybe one or two games all year where he was outplayed by his opponent and even that could be an overstatement.

Is there a better all around 2 guard in the league right now? I ask cause I don't know. So far I haven't seen anyone who combines offense and defense better than him at the position. He's the Johnny Toews of the NBA.

November Conference player of the month. I'd say he is well on his way to being an allstar this year.

Agreed. We were just complaining about his assists totals and he damn near had a triple double against the Mavs.

He's the most improved player already. He's playing like a better offensive version of Leonard and has to be in the MVP discussion.

I wouldn't say MVP, but he's having an all-star year. I thought the Bulls were making the right choice in the pre-season to not pay him, but he's looking like a max player. Long way to go obviously.
