The dumbest argument I've heard on the score by the likes of Arkush and the two morning dummies why the Bears can't clean house and get rid of Emery, Trestman, and Marshall is because they would have to eat a lot of money. The money is already gone, it's a sunk cost. So if you believe, as many Bears fans do, that the team is not only is headed in the wrong direction, but is also irreparable with the present constellation of GM, head coach and players, then a change should be made, because not making a change is just delaying the rebuilding process and putting you farther from winning a championship. George McCaskey needs to realize this for the good of the team and franchise.

The McCaskey family has made enough money off of Bears fans over the years. If they made a mistake, as they've done with Trestman and Emery, then they should fix it, no matter the cost. Businesses take write-offs all the time for non-performing assets. The alternative if they don't do anything is that they destroy the franchise by becoming in effect Jacksonville, which is going to cost them a lot more than writing off $70-$100 million in salaries.

I am against getting rid of Cutler. I think there are coaches that could work with him, like Mike Shanahan. He's from Oak Park and is only 62 and probably would love the job. If not him, then they have to hire tubby Rex after the Jets fire him. The problem is not Cutler, it's play calling and game planning, the O-line, Marshall, not having a vertical threat, not having a running back that can run between the tackles. Cutler is at his best when he has time and can throw vertical routes. He's not Jeff George, he's just a guy that has had little help from the coaches and the players around him.

Without John Elway as his QB, Shanahan has a 123-121 regular season record, and a 1-5 playoff record.

Because I just leaked it. He also fits right in with our team colors.

Coaching Washington still couldn't drop him below .500.

Cutler has the arm strength of Elway, so Shanahan would be able to do things similar to what he did with Elway, I'd imagine.

One thing Shanahan was never criticized for is game management. I remember the guy being pretty damn good at that, unlike Trestman.

Right, and he's got Superbowl pedigree, something the Bears have not had since Da Coach.

IIRC Shanahan was doing a great job developing Cutler. His only Pro Bowl appearance came in the tough AFC and Shanahan was his coach.

Cutler's biggest fault is that once things start going bad for him he's fucked. He's almost incapable of getting himself out of a jam. When he has one turnover he's almost certainly going to have another one. Trestman absolutely has to go but so does Jay.

I think at one point everyone that was worth a shit has been a pro bowl qb. I believe David Garrard can claim to being one as well. I'd rather have a qb voted all pro.

The one thing here is Cutler is old regime. The sad part is the new regime bought into him too. So Jay will be taking down 2 GM's,2 HC's and a myriad of other asst. coaches.

I never trusted Emery but thought how bad can he be? He has had a few good picks,or am I wrong?

Pros:

Marshall
Jeffery
Long and o-line in general
Fuller
Maybe others that I can't remember

Cons:

Defense
Drafting
Coaches

Just visualize Shanahan on the west sideline of Soldier Field in navy blue and orange, calling the shots. There's your field general we've been missing since Ditka.

Unlike Trestman he's got the clout and persona to manage Cutler. Not only is he articulate and understands what it takes to build a winning organization, he's got great hair.

Please don't put John Elway and Jay Cutler in the same sentence unless you are comparing them in that they both have penises.

Jay Cutler absolutely has to go. He hasn't been successful and is a coach killer. He IS Jeff George 2.0 and is a shit QB.

Marshall is either really hurt or just doesn't give a fuck anymore. If he is hurt he gets a pass. If not, fuck him too. He and his buddy Jay can go fuck up some other team.

Please don't put Rex Ryan anywhere near the Bears unless he replaces/eats Mel Tucker as D Coach.

Emery, Trestman and the McCaskeys can all die of Ebola.

There's plenty of young QBs to draft next year to start the rebuilding process.

Mr. Orange or Harbaugh as head coach and Rex Ryan as the defensive coordinator and I think we are on our way to being a contender.

Cutler will turn into Elway if Shanahan is the coach? The league is full of bad QBs with strong arms.

Im far from being on the John Elway greatness bandwagon but to compare him with Cutler just made me throw up in my mouth a bit.

This statement is really all one needs to know about QB's. Arm strength is becoming less and less of a priority. There are also tons of QB's with great arms who never made it in the NFL. Strong arm means very little to me.

Marshall is already thinking Shanahan according to this article from a couple weeks back.

Why not Shanahan as next Bears coach?
Posted by Mike Florio on November 11, 2014, 9:51 PM EST
Shanahan Getty Images

If the Bears decide to clean house but opt not to let quarterback Jay Cutler walk away with $38 million guaranteed after one year of service, they’ll need a coach who wants to work with him.

How about Mike Shanahan?

It was Shanahan who traded up in 2006 to snag Cutler at a time when no one had an idea the Broncos were even remotely interested. Cutler stayed in Denver until Shanahan was fired, and then the next head coach, Josh McDaniels, ran Cutler out of town as his first order of business.

With the Bears imploding and coach Marc Trestman and G.M. Phil Emery undoubtedly in danger (grave or otherwise), ownership may not want to cut the cord on Cutler. So they’ll need a coach who’ll keep Cutler around.

Why not Shanahan? He’s an Oak Park, Illinois native who played at Eastern Illinois. He led the Broncos to a pair of Super Bowl wins. And he somehow managed to take an inherently dysfunctional Washington franchise to the postseason in 2012.

On Tuesday night’s edition of Inside The NFL on Showtime, Bears receiver Brandon Marshall quoted the man who, like Cutler, drafted Marshall in Denver: “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.”

Maybe Marshall was dropping a hint. Maybe the Bears won’t need much of a hint, if they choose to make sweeping changes but don’t want to sweep away $38 million for the first year of Cutler’s latest contract. If Cutler stays and everyone else goes, Shanahan makes the most sense to be the team’s next coach.

I love that we're evaluating possible coaching candidates by their ability to fix Cutler. Keep chasing that rainbow!

Yea, its just ridiculous. Cutler has been in the league 10 years. He's fully developed.

That's basically dignified Rube, who apparently understands cleaning house to mean restocking the shelf around franchise QB Jay Cutler.

You're going to waste the 8th pick of next year's draft on a quarterback when you're hurting for LBs, DEs, Ss, OTs and I'll throw in RBs?

That would be doing what got us in this mess in the first place, not drafting players well where there's needs.

What got the Bears in this mess is trying to build the team AND coaching staff around a bum like Jay Cutler and signing him to the worst contract in sports.
