What the fuck is this?

The Bears’ eight rushing attempts in Thursday’s loss to the Lions were the lowest single-game total in franchise history.

Quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass 51 times, handed off seven times and kneeled down once. That’s not close to the play distribution balance general manager Phil Emery and Marc Trestman said the team needed on Oct. 27.

On Monday, Cutler and running back Matt Forte joined offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer and coach/play-caller Marc Trestman in lamenting that continued imbalance.

It goes on to have Forte and Cutler complaining that they're not running the ball. But joining Kromer AND Trestman in lamenting the imbalance? Who the hell is calling plays out there?

Cutler, on whether running the ball makes his life easier:

“Yeah. You want to throw the ball. You want to throw touchdowns. You want to throw (for) big yards. But you also want to win football games, and I think anyone that has been doing this for a while realizes that you’ve got to have the best of both worlds. You’ve got to kind of move the pocket. You’ve got to be able to run the ball. You’ve got to do some play-action. You’ve got to mix it up. There’s no one out there that can drop back 40-50 times consistently and win football games. It’s really hard.”

So is Trestman calling all pass plays or is Cutler calling audibles? Because they're telling different stories here.

It's Brandon Marshall's fault. Everything is.

I know you're being sarcastic, but really, who is left to lay blame upon?
Three guys can call offensive plays, Kromer, Trestman, and Cutler and they're all bitching about playcalling?

I couldn't think of a non-joking answer. It is almost hard to believe how incompetent this coaching staff has become. It's like a real life Onion story playing out in real time.

I know you're a Bears fan, but I think you're also a fan of comedic disasters... I mean you could live with one more Trestman season as a Bears fan right? It's for the greater good.

I don't see any scenario in which Trestman would be back as Bears coach next year. Knowing how Halas Hall generally operates, Trestman will probably be the coach next year.

Let the fans call the plays. Put up 3 of 4 of them and set up a text message poll. As long as Scorehead doesn't vote, we should be fine.

No. No. God, no. What? No.

That's a pretty selfish response Darko. Just treat next season like a Cubs season.

Well fuck. Fine then. I'm just glad Phil Emery is dumber than you. Or he's a Packers fan.

Only way something drastic happens is if we see another debacle game. Another Green Bay or New England game. Any game where they score *some* points but don't win isn't going to cause anything to happen. Only thing I am expecting to see is Mel Tucker's departure.

He's talked about moving the pocket for weeks and Trestman refuses to do it. He's talked about routes that allow receivers to get yards after the catch and throwing the ball downfield. It sounds like Trestman is saying "Fuck You" to everyone on the offense.

Do it like QB1. We could have Buffalo Wild Wings be the sponsor, Doug & OB on site, halftime wing eating contest. Bears win and its a free beverage. There would certainly be a few more running plays called.

Scenario: 1st down and 10

Trestman: Hit Jeffery on the 1 yard curl

Cutler: Got it

[incomplete pass]

2nd down and 10

Cutler: Hey don't you think we should try Forte here? We've thrown it 45 consecutive times

Trestman: Yeah, that's on me. I've got to do a better job. Okay, try a screen to Wilson here. But yeah, shoot, I wish we had more run pass balance.

Before we go too crazy here, Cutler has audibled to a lot of passes this year too. They even had to turn off the option at least once this year.

Now, the fact that is available is on the coach too but I doubt when things are going well that Cutler is like "Damn, I wish I didn't have to pass this much".

Trestman is still horrible and needs to go.

Its because Trestman does not trust Jay Cutler. He knows that if he is agressive, moves the pocket, and calls for plays downfield, that Jay more likely than not is going to put the football in harms way more than once a game. We've seen it dozens of times before. Even with a dumbed down conservative offensive gameplan, Cutler still leagues the league in turnovers.

I'm not saying that as a defense of Marc Trestman, I'm pointing out (again) how your boy Jay Cutler is one of the biggest problems with this team. Talk about the yardage or QB Rating all you want. The eye test tells us that Jay Cutler has not been very good this overall this season.

But the thing with Cutler is that he's most effective running and gunning, even with the interceptions. Making him play like Jason Campbell is pretty fucking stupid. It highlights his flaws and removes one of the few positives in his game.

FF, how many times have we seen Cutler on the run, throw off his back foot, and the pass is intercepted? We saw it Thanksgiving when he underthrew Marshall in the 2nd half. I know Cutler has the legs to do it, he just doesn't have the mental ability to be that kind of QB. This year it seems to be that if a WR runs a downfield route, Cutler has to throw it to him regardless of how many defenders are in the area.

I also don't think they utilize Martellus Bennett enough, which is a further indictment on Trestman. Granted, Trestman may not fully trust him either because he has dropped a lot of passes this year.

Brick I said that beacuse I know what Nas' knee jerk reply is likely to be. "Cutler is having a career year"

Fuck that. His 'career year' was winning the division, getting the #2 seed, and helping take the Bears to the NFC Title game a few years back. His career year should include a Super Bowl, everything else be dammed.

I'm not trying to say Cutler doesn't suck. He definitely sucks. But he sucks less when you play to his few strengths as opposed to pretending he's Chad Pennington, when he really couldn't be more opposite.
