What brands do you guys recommend? My laptop is almost 8 years old, so it's time to replace it. However, I don't want to go super cheap & want something powerful enough to game on.

...gaming....laptop....? What is that?

Do you mean one of those really expensive laptops with flashy lights that are bundled with game coupons but can't even run those games as well as current gen consoles? I don't know much about those.

Those prices are disgusting. Jesus Christ.

Basically, I want a laptop that has a graphics card and processor that's good enough to play games on. I don't need anything like Alienware, nor anything that's over $1,100.

I've heard good things about ASUS... but I'm not sure if that's the boxes or the laptops or both

You need to be much more specific about which games. And do you want them to "just run" or do you want them to look PS4 quality, or better?

I was thinking at some point of getting Final Fantasy XIV. Probably some of the others I don't own I'd get on Steam. Also would like to be able to run a PS2 emulator.

You can go way cheaper than $1100 then. A $700 or $800 laptop would get you the performance you need easily. I don't have an example but can send you a few if needed.

Thanks anyway, Ike. I'd rather get a new one @ that cost.

Thanks for the advice, IMU. I'll keep that in mind while I search.

Great. Just look into "last generation" specs.

My GTX660 TI still runs every game I throw at it on ultra at 1080p. i5-2500K. 8GB RAM.

you buy gaming laptops because you have a lot better chance at getting a machine that has adequate cooling. a surprising number of mainstream laptops can not run at full speed for more than 20min or so without overheating.

I haven't been in these forums in awhile, but felt I needed to chime in. I bought a Lenovo gaming laptop and it was a huge mistake. IMU is absolutely right. If you are going to PC game, you'll get much better gaming experience with a bigger screen and faster rig than with any laptop. I have buyers remorse. All I do on it now is play Age of Empires 2 since Battlefield 4 and every other FPS looks like (and performs like) crap.

You should get a console or a standard Dell package.
