So, here's who was scouting the big games over the weekend. I was kind of hoping the Bears might be checking out Shawn Oakman at Baylor. He's "angry and troubled" but kind of a beast.

So, here you go -

Quote:
Ohio State at Michigan State

Clubs attending: Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, St. Louis Rams.

Three top players: Ohio State (DL Noah Spence, DL Michael Bennett, CB Doran Grant); Michigan State (QB Connor Cook, DE Shilique Calhoun, DB Kurtis Drummond).

Baylor at Oklahoma

Clubs attending: Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans.

Three top players: Baylor (QB Bryce Petty, DE Shawn Oakman, WR Antwan Goodley); Oklahoma (LB Eric Striker, OL Tyrus Thompson, OL Daryl Williams).

Alabama at LSU

Clubs attending: New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints.

Three top players: Alabama (DB Landon Collins, WR Amari Cooper, RB T.J. Yeldon); LSU (DB Jalen Mills, DB Jalen Collins, OL La'el Collins).

Notre Dame at Arizona State

Three top players: Notre Dame (TE Ben Koyack, QB Everett Golson, DL Sheldon Day); Arizona State (WR Jaelen Strong, QB Taylor Kelly, RB D.J. Foster).

Texas A&M at Auburn

Clubs attending: San Francisco 49ers.

Three top players: Texas A&M (OL Cedric Ogbuehi, OL Jarvis Harrison, TE Cameron Clear); Auburn (OL Reese Dismukes, WR Sammie Coates, WR D'haquille Williams).

Kansas State at TCU

Clubs attending: Tennessee Titans.

So, who were the Bears checking out? Oh yeah, nobody.

Here's the Bears history this year -

10/25 - Oregon St / Stanford

Dr. Ken's take - Let's get some smart guys that understand the smart things we're doing. Trestman would like to whisper things into Sean Mannion's ear.

10/25 - West Virginia / Okla St.

Dr. Ken's take - There aren't any good players here but Jacksonville is the only other team here. They must know something.

10/18 - Texas A&M / Alabama

Dr. Ken's take - Phil?

Yes, Marc?

Can we draft everybody here?

I think we're allowed, Marc. But let me confirm.

10/18 - Georgia / Arkansas

Dr. Ken's take - Let's go to the games Gurley doesn't play in. That will throw people off.

10/11 - Oregon / UCLA

Dr. Ken's take - Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and Hroniss Grasu would break my autocorrect. Let's not draft them.

10/4 - Baylor / Texas

Dr. Ken's take - YEAH!! They already looked at Oakman. Again, "angry and troubled" and that was before he watched last night's Bears game. At least I have an excuse.

10/4 - Stanford / ND

Dr. Ken's take - Uh oh. They've been to 2 Stanford games, now. Let's get to know OL Andrus Peat. A big ol' LT prospect with good feet and athleticism. 6'7"/312 on a "monstrous frame". He occasionally gets "lazy with his waist" which is the same complaint Mrs. Dr. Ken has with me and I've overcome it. I think he can too.

9/20 - Clemson / FSU

Dr. Ken's take - Somebody better be taking a look at Vic Beasley. LOOK AT HIM!!

9/20 - South Carolina / Vanderbilt

Dr. Ken's take - You can't go to the Vanderbilt well too often for this guy.

He's apparently fast enough to get 400 yards on 25 carries.

You mentioned Golson at the ND-ASU game, but while he's listed as a Senior, Golson is fully expected to be back at ND for the 2015 season (eligibility). Terrific athletic ability, but if the Bears want to evaluate an ND quarterback, they need look no further than their own J. Clausen...!

Emery's really kicking things in gear now. He's hitting up 3 games this past weekend.

11/15 - FSU / Miami

Dr. Ken's Take - Trestman loves to get off to a slow start offensively (and defensively) ((and get off to a slow ending)) so he's very intrigued by Jameis Winston as someone he can work with to never cover a spread. For Miami, Denzel Perryman is just the kind of slow, undersized linebacker that the Bears covet in the 2nd round.

11/15 - Washington / Arizona

Dr. Ken's Take - Two teams that I feel like they've seen already but they haven't. Shaq Thompson would look real good lighting up ball-carriers in the orange and blue next year. He would also immediately be the 2nd best RB on the team. He'd have to eat a couple sammiches if he sticks on the D side, though, unless they throw him at safety. REVERSE URLACHER!

11/15 - Miss St. / Alabama

Dr. Ken's Take - MY GUY!! Emery decided to be the last team in America to take a look at Benardrick McKinney. Do you want to know what they found out? He's friggin' awesome and Emery's too smart to take somebody everybody likes. Plus, with every meaningless win they are pushing Dr. Ken and Benardrick apart. Also, Landon Collins could be a guy the Bears are looking at for strong safety. No way they can get both though. Too bad.

11/22 - USC / UCLA

Dr. Ken's Take - QB Brett Hundley is a big strong kid with decent arm. 6'3"/225 He projects as a 2-4 round guy - right in the wheelhouse for the QB of the future pick. Plus, the last QB drafted out of UCLA was Cade McNown, so the Bruins owe the Bears one.

And that's it. No need to see any other games. The NFL product is pretty solid.

In truth, they could be there to scout OLB Myles Jack. 6'1"/230 Kind of a Shaq Thompson two-way guy but even more undersized. Jack is a 2016 guy, probably more of a 3-4 guy.

Or they could be looking at Eric Kendricks another undersized ILB but a 5-year experienced guy that could be 3/4 round type guy. He also has a brother playing for the Eagles. The Bears love to draft guys like that. He'd probably be a pretty good pick to get in the 3rd, certainly the 4th.

The more I look at this Shaq Thompson might be a guy they really target to take Briggs position.

The one thing you could kind of get from all of these reviews (which isn't much) is that the Bears do seem to be scouting a lot of games with LB prospects on both sides. Looks pretty clear they are going LB early and probably often.

I watched Miami/UVA and one guy who flashed was Denzel Perryman.

Height: 6'0"
Weight: 242

The cat is a tackling machine. Went sideline to sideline to nab those pesky RBs trying to turn the corner. If Trestman pinches off an 7-9/8-8 season to push the Bears away from the top guys I think he'd be a great fit.

The Bears scouted him last week. I was less enthusiastic than you on him. He seems undersized and not particularly adept at pass coverage although a pretty good run stopper and good instincts. Sounds like he's going to run a pretty slow 40 which will drop him some but also looks like he plays faster than whatever time he gives probably indicates. Feels like he's a guy that drops to 3/4 and the Bears may like him.

They scouted -

Alabama
Auburn
Notre Dame
USC

-this weekend.

Dr. Ken's Take: They want to hire Brian Kelly.

I think they also wanted to hire Lawrence Holmes in some capacity but couldn't top his current million dollar income

LB, SS, and DE are all needs.

Depending on the Kyle Long plan at guard or kicking him out to tackle, a RT/OC/OG is needed too.

At LB, Watching McKinney from Mississippi State made me cringe when they got beat by Alabama. Wrong assignments constantly, fooled on a lot of plays, and Lane Kiffin really made him a nonfactor, which kind of scared me away. Maybe it was the Mississippi State DC, but that entire defense got pantsed. They went left and the play went right.

Physically a freak and an outlier among LBs. You don't find many 6'5 linebackers that fast.

I like Shaq Thompson from Washington because he's a sideline to sideline guy whereas McKinney is better downhill, not to say he can't be side to side.

Thompson plays in a 3-4/4-3 Hybrid and McKinney plays in a 3-4.

Depending on Emery, who I'm guessing stays, the 4-3 will too. I think Thompson is a safer bet. Is he a Kuechly or 'once in a generation player,' no. He's safer whereas McKinney is more 'boom or bust.' I think McKinney's best fit is the Arizona Cardinals ILB. Blitzing? He'd be a monster

Also, a big thing here, the guy has to be put in a position to succeed. The defense sucks right now. So the guy has to have a chance. Different animal, but Blake Bortles in Jacksonville is screwed constantly because he's got nobody around him to throw to or throw him a bone. Allen Robinson? Dennard Robinson?

Give one of these cats a chance.

As far as safeties go, I don't want to see Landon Collins be considered. The Alabama safeties trend isn't that great. Mark Barron isn't spectacular, Haha Clinton-Dix the jury is out. Going back to 2000, the most successful Safety from Bama that was taken high was Roman Harper.

Cody Prewitt and Sam Carter are better options. Doubt Prewitt lasts till early 2nd round, but Carter from TCU will. Definitely a great SS candidate.

Want to knock out the C problem for the next decade? Hroniss Grasu or Reese Desmukes round 2. Neither will last beyond sans major injury right now.

12/6 - Missouri / Alabama

Dr. Ken's Take: Mizzou DE Markus Golden is just like Shea McClellin if Shea McClellin was average at football. He's just the kind of undersized DE that works perfectly for Phil Emery's nonexistent vision for defense.

Then, of course, there's Landon Collins. This is at least the 2nd time the Bears have seen Alabama and I don't think Cooper or Yeldon are on their radar.

The big news will be if Collins can outplay Brock Versteeg next camp for the starting safety spot.

I read that Collins is more of a thumper-type than a CF-type. Regardless, the Bears need both so "he's on the team for next year!"

He's been spending a lot of time watching the SEC.
