ever had it? and where if so?

See all the foodie shows serving and they rave about it. Maybe they are just playing up their food snobbery and I woul have a hard time passing up a known great steak if I saw it on menu.

I'll pass. Does not sound the least bit appetizing.

Have had it several times - in Buenos Aires, where they served a grill of all those great organs and glands (the one at La Estancia did not have the heart in it - I had a second parrillada with the heart included). Also had a heart/eyeball taco just outside the Zocalo in Mexico City.

I'm not an organ person but I'd think it would be good. Not fatty, meaty, not tough like some muscles. I'd try it.

So, is it good? is it like steak?

Buenos Aires would be the place for it and what else is worth trying. had the eyeball once, no thanks.

Beef heart looks like it could be like steak.

I am not a fan of liver, too tinny flavored. Need to cut it with fat like in chopped liver.

We have always used our heart in a mix for the meat filling for pierogi. I have not tried it stand alone, but we have an extra one in the freezer this year, and Mom is not planning on making dumplings for Christmas dinner this year, so I am looking for recipes. Which of the foodies is promoting heart?

I haven't really seen any chefs doing it but I've seen some recipes from the caveman/paleo world.

I split a steer with a couple people once. They didn't want the organs so I got them. I cut the heart into strips and grilled it over wood coals. It was OK, not great. Extreme mineral flavor. If you like liver you could eat it. If you hate the flavor of liver, you wouldn't like it. Though the consistency is different.

I am not a bovine endocrinologist (in the eyes of the state, anyway) but I would imagine that the organs through which blood is constantly passing or filtering would take on some of the iron and mineral content, and consequently a slightly medicinal flavor.
