I see the point, but they already have the land in Arie crown...which has been a 10 year eye sore and if they dont fuck it up with an amazing retractable dome, it could be amazing.

I brought up a dome some time back. With a dome over Soldier Fields,they could have had a Super Bowl.

Been on this for years the FACT of why we dont have a dome. A former member here would usually chime in at this point at derail the discussion as everything in his view was meant as a shot at the Sox, but thats why we dont have a dome.

I don't even give a shit now. Our big three lakefront museums are legitimate cultural institutions (though my interest in the Field is admittedly minimal). This is a warehouse for props. I look forward to the all-in-one day pass that lets tourists see the Grande Jatte, Sue, the U-Boat, and R2-D2.

I also agree that a dome would be an even bigger eyesore to our lakefront than Soldier Field already is. And I'm worried about the supply and demand on giant retractable-roof domes. What happens if we build one to get all these events and then fucking Indianapolis just undercuts us on everything?

There was also a mention of a casino as an engine of revenue and urban development. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

The power brokers of Chicago are not losing to Indy for Super Bowls, Political conventions and NCAA final fours. This isnt shopping at COSTCO. As well as Indy does for events, they and AZ have serious limitations of hotels and dining for the prelims of these events when 2 to 3 times the event capacity is in town.

AZ for example has the TPC the same week as the Super Bowl. They will run out of hotel rooms, rental cars, taxis, etc

The Casino, should not be seen as driver of this project, should just be seen as a part of the project that doesnt need to be on the lakefront, just as easy fit.

And it is very possible to build NICE buildings and use a body of water to enhance it.

I think your vision on it is limited. I think it could end up being a magnificent "teaching" museum along the lines of the art institute but for technological film production.

Lucas isn't really just Star Wars and hasn't been for a long time. His company will long survive him.
