Aurelio's Pizza, a South and West suburban staple, will open its first Northwest suburban location in Arlington Heights early next year.

A plan to build the restaurant at 2944 W. Euclid Ave. received approval from the Arlington Heights village board on Monday, and owner George Vassos said he hopes to open in mid-March 2015.
The 5,100-square-foot restaurant will seat 183 people inside and have an outdoor seating area for 25, Vassos said. The restaurant will serve thin and thick crust pizza, meatball sandwiches, pasta, salads and other classic Italian dishes.

If it's a mainstay large restaurant and not just a satellite location then the quality will be good and it will be good. It gets spotty with the takeout places.

I'm sure the "I HATE WHAT YOU LIKE, I LIKE STUFF WAY COOLER." brigade will shit all over it but fuck them. They suck.

Loved the stuff in college (there's one in Macomb), though we usually went the chain route since we were poor college students. Aurelio's was the "date night" place I'd take my then GF to when she came to visit for Valentine's Day.

I said it was average. My thoughts pretty much echo what Bigfan said.

But if you put mayo on it, I might cut your fucking head off.

Who the fuck puts mayo on a pizza?

I'd say it's above average.

It's pretty good. Not great, not terrible, but consistent. That's one of the most important things for our family. We order from there a good amount.

Rosati's and Malnati's are all you need. Get these Sout' Side interlopers out of here.

I don't have a ton of great pizza choices in AH right now. Or at least that I know of. So I welcome it.

Does anyone have any AH pizza recommendations?

There's an Aurelio's in the South Loop, on street level at that weird Holiday Inn on Harrison.

Thin crust with tomato (diced or sliced) and garlic.

Martello's on Grand @ Western also does a tasty thin crust tomato and garlic.

Noticed Chavas tacos on Grand @Western (best tacos in Chicago) is now 24 hours.

I'm going to be around there quite a bit next week. Which tacos should be the "don't miss"?

As for Aurelio's, iirc it was ok. As I haven't lived in the south burbs in forever I haven't had it in years. The sauce was almost always on the sweet side from what I recall.

what's weird is the the pizza from original location in Homewood is really good... but the other locations have not tasted nearly as good as the homewood location's pizza.... most of my co-workers agree on this too

Which one? Near the Tivoli? That one's OK.

The one on Rt. 53 near 7 Bridges sucks.

The original in Homewood and the one in Frankfort are excellent.

The one is South Holland is great, love the lunch buffet. The one in LaGrange, not so much.

Horrible sweet sauce and mushrooms from a can ... no thanks.

I'll admit the Homewood one is better - the one closest to me, LaGrange, is horrible.
