I assume this is a joke but I think they would be better if they just let him make mistakes. They've tried to bridle him so much he's just ineffective.

He still makes the mistakes anyway. Cut him loose.

In all seriousness I agree. They've tried too hard to make him McCown instead of just trying to improve the things he does well. He's the gunslinger we saw in the 4th quarter. He'll make some great plays and sprinkle in a few bad ones too. Making him a part time game manager is stupid

What you have posted here is the biggest indictment of Cutler that I have seen.

Any qb who can't "manage" a game is just a bad quarterback. You are basically saying that Cutler isn't good enough to make simple plays.

the cowboys had this innovative formation with a second running back in between the QB and the running back. see, when the ball is snapped, that guy goes forward and blocks somebody so that the running back has an opening to run forward through. Bears should try something like that.

In other words, he's uncoachable.

While obviously not as great he is cut from the same mold as Favre. Every coach understood that it was in the best interest of the team to give Favre freedom to take chances.

Your entire team was built to outscore the other teams, then in mid season you tried to make him a game manager

He was good though. In fact, he was good enough to the point that he didn't need to be fixed in his 30s.

The reason they are trying this with Cutler is because he failed doing it his way, and a terrible quarterback like McCown outperformed him.

Favre could manage a game just fine--he killed the Bears and many other teams during his career with the slant.

There was one play that was 3rd and 6 or so and the Bears ran two 4-yard curls, two 8-yard curls and Wilson ran up the sideline.

All their receivers were basically in the same spot and they were all covered. They were all grouped between the hashes. Trestman is a genius.

He can't outscore other teams. He's also not good at managing games.

His receivers were instructed to continue to run when they caught that slant.

We like the turf tackle when we catch ours.

Rick I believe Shanahan was the only one who allowed him to do it his way. Everyone else has been trying to fix him instead of just improving what he does well. Telling Cutler "We love you but we want to completely change you" probably doesn't give him a lot of confidence. Being afraid that he will make mistakes so you start calling for 5 yard passes really doesn't help either. This just isn't the same offense we saw up until the first Packers game.

The view from the replay said a lot about Trestman.

The fact that he is in his 30s and no one has been able to "fix him" means he just probably isn't fixable.

Another coach fired for him.

Part of the problem is that Cutler doesn't throw the slant as well as Favre did. Cutler rarely hits his receivers in stride because he throws the ball to the receiver rather than the spot where the receiver will be.

BRick was actually wrong about Cutler. He is much worse than even he predicted. He is a bottom 5 QB.

I believe there have been games where there were more WR screens than running plays

Cutler and Trestman are both not good enough. Probably Emery too.

Josh McDaniels was the true genius in all of this.

I agree any new coach shouldn't try to fix him. Live with the mistakes but improve what he does well. He won't have to think as much and can play freely. He's a better QB when he's allowed to play like that. Will it cost you games? Sure. I believe the Bears would win more games if they took the training wheels off.

They didn't though. Plenty of times they have let Cutler be Cutler.

As you are so willing to point out, Cutler is having a career year this year. This is the best he has ever been. He was worse before.

And really it's because they are getting their ass beat and it doesn't matter if he scores 20-30 points a game.

He doesn't look like the same QB though. He was great for about 36 minutes of the first Green Bay game and after that game Trestman put the training wheels on.

It seems to me (look son, it's a thematic callback!) that heralding Jay Cutler's year as a passer is to implicitly ignore the simple and obvious fact that it's because of the wholly bizarre inattention given to the running game as well as the inherent necessity to sling the ball around wildly when you're down 30 points or whatever by the mid 3rd quarter with some degree of regularity.

Good point. Cutler basically ran the offense during Tice's tenure as OC. That was a terrible year.

He got hurt. IIRC they were 7-1 until his injury. Those offensive lines were brutal and they traded away his only legitimate receiving weapon.
