So basically it's a salary dump? I don't love it but I can live with it.

Sounds good to me.

What's there not to love? Lefty, veteran, huge upgrade defensively.

$40M over 3 years. He hasn't been great with the bat since he signed his deal. In comparison to what Martin got I guess it's not too bad.

That's it. Less money, less years. This isn't a silver bullet or anything, but it would be a nice upgrade.

If #Cubs get Lester, industry source says next move would be to pursue big bat and try to accelerate revival. A bat in addition to Montero.

The Chicago #Cubs are on the verge of acquiring #Dbacks catcher Miguel Montero for prospects. Deal expected by end of day.

Montero had a .735 OPS against righties last year and had a way better first half than second.

Montero is a very good all around catcher. The Dbacks lineup has been awful. Maybe getting around some better hitters will bring back his hitting prowess.

I like the deal. Half the price of Martin for the same results. And a lefty.

Via Baseball Prospectus, last year Montero produced 138.9 extra strikes in advanced catcher framing metrics. Castillo -77.4 extra strikes.

It's a shame that Cubs have a loser's complex in all areas concerning the sport. I will be happy for you guys if you get Lester. I'd hate for Edwin Jackson to be the biggest signing of Theo's first four years here.

I've been clear since before the off season that Lester should be their target. Lefty, top of the rotation starter requiring no compensation checks all organizational boxes. They will overpay, but I think it is a worthy overpayment.
