You can't compare their numbers though. Matthew Stafford will have better numbers than Elway and no one would say he was a better QB. It's hard to compare them based on numbers. Favre put up great passing stats in an era where that was rare. Now every QB does it. Remember when 3000 yards passing meant something?

i preach this all the time when it comes to the NFL, especially QB's...but in this sense, why bring up his "statistically great" season at 39?

Plus, a dynasty is a dynasty because no one can beat you. A lot of great players didn't win anything during the reign of the Cowboys and the Niners.

I agree, but I'm not the one who brought up the dynasty angle. Favre never beat the Cowboys until they were no longer a contender, and the 49ers never approached a dynasty in the 90's.

I wouldn't go that far with the Cowboys...they were still a contending team. But yeah, the 80's were the Niners dominance, even though they won a Championship in the '94 season. and the Cowboys (thankfully) started to fade in the late 90's.

what sucks is that i always wanted to see the Bills become that dynasty in the early 90's. that was a huge shame.

Completely agree. I still am shocked that the Giants won that one... But Kelly and Squirmin Thurman were two of my favorites.

I just remember hating the fact that the Packers couldn't beat the Cowboys at their best, and when the finally did that Cowboys team didn't seem to even resemble the one from just a few years prior to that.

Because they were both playing that season and old man Favre outplayed him. I remember being on his bandwagon that year and watching FavreFan and other Packer fans try to find reasons to criticize him. It's just my way of poking them.

I believe 22,000 yards over 100 games in the early 90s is equivalent to 32,000 yards today.

I don't think I was able to post here that much at the time. I remember not being at all worried, all of us Packer fans that remember 2007 knew exactly how that season was ending for Minnesota.

Because of Favre.

No, because Reggie White absolutely obliterated anything in his path. That's what turned Green Bay from a fringe contender into the best team in the league.

I remember that Giants game. The Vikings season ended that way because of Childress and AP. AP kept fumbling and Childress had too many men on the field. That's not including the refs closing their eyes while the Saints players intentionally tried to hurt him and his ankle on every play.

I remember making all these same excuses after 2007. It's ok. The truth is that Favre choked both years.

yeah it's one of the most "not cool" things in sports history. winning a super bowl because a kicker missed a makeable field goal is just a rub. always felt for bills fans. and i know their winters. i lived in upstate NY for 5 years.

you started hating things when you were 5 years old? that's such a shame! jk

I know, I was teasing about the stats thing...it was still impressive that he could play at that age, and still compete for a championship.

I don't know why I let you suck me into your troll posts but...
In addition to Sterling Sharpe (as GD noted), Favre also had Robert Brooks, Donald Driver, Mark Chmura, Javon Walker and Antonio Freeman.

Sharpe was great BUT he was only around for about 10 games of Favre's career. None of the other guys were close to being great. They owe any success they had to Favre and one raped a kid and couldn't stick around.

Donald Driver was great.

Even I would not call Donald Driver great, great to me is a invitation to Canton.

I know Hawger well :D

I think even if Hawger knew he was gonna lose the game he would still choose Favre just to be able to watch #4 sling it one more time. Actually, I change my mind. I'd take Favre too.
