Alvarez acts like a freaking GM.

He is as pompous and arrogant as they come.

He lost me with that low class stick up scheme to coach in the bowl game

I am sure he will be coaching them again this year also.

Seems like it to me.

Oregon State is kind of a shitty program with no hope of being anything other than the weak sister of a non football producer state.

Come on in, next head coach!

Your first two games are against Auburn.....and Alabama.

(I know, they won't coach the bowl game)

This came up when Bielema left but it's hard to take over a job when your boss is the guy who raised the program. When BB left, Barry was quoted talking about how Bret took his gameplan and ran with it and that the successor needed to understand Wisconsin footbal.

Barry thinks he is Wisconsin football.

True, and I do think Barry is part of the problem. But he also hired a guy (GA) who was going to change Wisconsin football. And he was well on his way. 3-4, running QB (that didn't work, but was still the plan with AK coming in).

The quarterback is still coming.

We'll see. He says he is still committed, but he was just very very attached to GA. Hopeful, though.

He said he was going to sit down with his dad and last night around midnight he tweeted he was still coming. I don't know why he would, the offense will be going back to more of a pro style I am pretty confident. He seems like he is more of a spread style qb.

Alvarez just announced as head coach for the bowl game per ESPN. ( not that they have many other choices )

Not sure that number is out yet. I find it odd that they would allow a guy in his position to be on that
FBS voting commitee. I know they were strange circumstances, but last week he helps decide the college
football final 4 and now he is coaching a New Years Day bowl game. He has to be loving all the time in
the spotlight.

Go on...

People that I know and just the way Barry reacted at the presser yesterday, he had a clear look of shock on his face. Also, he was in New York, if he set all of this up, he would have been in Madison.

Isn't he, though? Wisconsin football was as bad as Northwestern or worse until he got there and made an actual program.

Look at his mentor Hayden Fry. Hayden brought Iowa out of the ashes but when it was time to leave - he left and is rarely heard from. He was involved in picking Kirk Ferentz for the head coach but at the end of the day, he chose to leave quietly.

He did bring the program back, but why does that mean he needs to continue meddling?

I remember the days of Broyles at Arkansas, same thing. Stuck around way to long as AD and ran off quite a few good coaches.

Wisconsin success is more system than coach at this point. Complain about that system all you want but 75% of big ten teams would love to be able to plug in 9-10 wins and a major bowl every year.

Chryst is the new guy at UW.

Pretty boring hire, I suppose, considering the madness of CFB in the last couple weeks.
But probably the right hire. This team could use a few years of stability.

Meh, you can tell this is a system hire. Nothing about Chryst screams great hire. He was rather average at Pitt.

Yep Barry went with one of his cronies, not surprising at all.

Agree. Super un-exciting. Most interested in his coordinators. I will say, Chryst should be able to get Stave going (at least I hope). That's the bright spot.

And the commits are still rolling in which is good too.

NIU is stuck with a system type coach right now as well.

Unlike Doeren and Kill, no one is beating down Carey's door. I think that chinless bastard sucks as a coach and is living off the success of others.

I agree about Carey. There's an argument over on the NIU board that he deserves a big raise. My thoughts on him are he got an opportunity no other 1-A program would have given him and he got it with a top program. He lost all three postseason games he coached in until he beat a rather weak 7-5 BGSU team in the MACC this year. I think he is paid plenty. NIU doesn't have the money to pay someone $1 million and if we did Carey wouldn't have been our coach.
