The Bears have to pay Cutler an additional $14 million if he is on the team 3 days into the new league year. With this happening, you'd have to think him being on the team by then is the least likely option.

I know. I still stand by what I said.

On a related note, 15 or 20 reporters were probably at Halas Hall today. But the guy from Bristol gets it. It's always a national guy or a fake report by Bernstein. Never our idiot media people. Except for Biggs every now and then. That always amazes me. Especially for this particular story. Cutler's benching. Chicago media couldn't have gotten that?

They owe him $15M matter what and another $10M if he's on the roster at the start of the league year.

Correct. My numbers were off.

He gets an extra $6 million in March 2016.

Right. So they will not eat 15 million in actual money. And I think they think they at least one team will bite on a trade. Might have to wait to see which teams want one of these 2 QBs in the draft and who is willing to give up the most picks to trade up.

That might take time before the draft cuz the teams holding those top picks will wait it out to get the best offer.

I think the new NFL year starts in early March. Well before the draft.

They will have to eat $15M no matter what if they immediately cut him. If they wait until the start of the league year it will be $25M. We aren't just talking about cap space. We are talking about guaranteed money.

Yes. I know. That's why I said "THEY WON"T CUT HIM". He's back as the starter or they trade him. And he's benched cuz they need him healthy for either option

Seriously, this is really not that big of a deal. People are making more of it than what it is. You're keeping a HUGE investment healthy for yourself or to get something in return. Jesus Christ.

The move itself, Beardown, is not the cause for alarm. It's the events that led to it.

Why would they pay him an extra $10-$16 million? The guaranteed money is already lost. Throwing more money at it only make it worse and more damaging.

Not to mention they've pretty much destroyed the relationship here anyways with this move. No one thinks they are just trying to keep him healthy so he can be ready on game 1 of next year for the Bears.

It's very likely he isn't on the team next year. That is a big deal.

In fact, I can't even imagine a scenario where he is on the team for next year. Can you imagine the scene with him coming out to start game 1?

Yeah. But the events that led up to this are the same if Cutler starts this Sunday or not. So outrage shouldn't change based on this move.

Then that's a good thing. Then you know you need a new backup. Thus another reason that the move is correct.

Sure, that' a part of it like I said. Just to leave their options open for a trade if they go that route. Guarantee that he doesn't blow out an ACL to where you can't trade him. Or just have him healthy for the Bears next year.
Cutler's $54 million is guaranteed against injury.

Hard to believe this won't be a trade or cut situation. The Cutler era seems to be over.

Phil Emery needs to fire himself. You just gave this guy 57 million guaranteed last year because you tabbed him as your franchise qb and now he can't make it thru his initial season with that contract without getting benched. This guy is a fucking scout by trade??

One of the worst contracts of all time. Now go look at the Dalton and Kaepernick contracts and really feel sick.

If Cutler had the Dalton contract, the Bears would be on the hook for $18 million if they cut him.

Fucking relax man! Cutler has been a train wreck all year.....correct? Putting Claussen in against one of the best defenses is just stupid, but what do you expect from this bunch?

Cutler's agent and lawyers are very popular around the league now and Emery should be fired for getting schooled.

Tank it, period. 5-11 and a high draft pick. At the worst, trade away picks?
