Yea. He would almost have to take that unless an NFL team agrees to match it. The Raiders should do it. His wife wants to stay out there anyway.

8 million per year. Wow. Sean Payton is the highest paid NFL coach at 8 million. Belicheck is 7.5.

Harbaugh is gonna use this offer to get the Raiders or Jets to offer him 10 million per year. One or both of them will. Bears won't.

I seem to recall some talk years ago of the McCaskeys loving Harbaugh but not $8M plus love.

LaConfora said that the Raiders can beat any offer to Harbaugh. He also said that they offered double this amount to
Gruden and he turned it down.

What? Raiders offered Gruden 16 million per year? I doubt that.

I couldn't believe it either. But LaCanfora seems to be pretty connected.

That's what he heard. You're right. Still don't believe it. I'd say maybe 10 million per year. But no way the Raiders would double what the highest paid coach gets.

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora · 4h 4 hours ago
Little doubt Mark Davis could beat any Michigan offer to Harbaugh. I heard he had double this out there for Gruden, who walked. Stay tuned

He might have meant the total dollar amount was double, not the average per year. So maybe it was 100 million over 10 years.

That's more believable.

So, Gruden could get 10 million per year to pour every minute of every day into trying to save a franchise that has gone out of its way to destroy itself at every turn, never see his family and be criticized at every single second.

Or, he can overwork the TV analyst job, spend probably only 50 hours a week at that, with 70-80 spare-time hours at home, and still probably make 2 mill. Still criticized, but not fighting 30 years of history.

I may be all in favor of the workaholic ideal, but that seems like a no brainer to stay in the booth

It was reported that Gruden got $4 million a year on his last contract, and it sounds like he just signed an extension so it is probably higher now.

You are correct. He's never giving that up.

it seems pretty clear that there are very few "juicy" jobs that the coach-turned-analyst will take at this point anyway. sometimes i think players would rather be in the booth than playing even.

the michigan thing is not a surprise at all. i always thought he was going to do that after the 49ers job. i thought that was pretty much the easy "next step". head coach in the NFL ain't what it used to be.

I am a big Michigan fan. Initially I didn't want them to chase him but the way the coaching
landscape is shaping up, I hope they convince him to go there. Between their program and
the Bears, this has been a very forgettable year of football in the T-Bone household.

The Big Ten should supplement Michigan for that contract because it is a game changer for the fortunes of the entire conference.

People always look to talent in the SEC as being what separates it from the others. I would argue it is coaching. Harbaugh, Meyer and Beckham in the same conference is a helluva start.

Quote:
Jim Harbaugh is almost assuredly leaving San Francisco -- a collapse against the San Diego Chargers Saturday night didn't help -- but where he will land is unclear. According to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer on Sunday, the Chicago Bears may be a front runner.

The Bears sit at 5-9 in head coach Marc Trestman's second season following their loss to the New Orleans Saints Monday night. The Bears' season has been marred by losses and locker room strife. Recently, offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer had to apologize to the team after leaking comments to reporters disparaging quarterback Jay Cutler.

Harbaugh could be a stabilizing presence in Chicago's locker room. He certainly has a proven track record of winning in the NFL. The Bears may have trouble luring him away from the University of Michigan, however. Glazer reported that Michigan has relayed its interest in Harbaugh, but Harbaugh has thus far demurred, telling the school, "You know, right now, I just don't know what I wanna do."

According to Glazer, Michigan will have its answer somewhere between 24 and 48 hours after the NFL regular season ends. If Harbaugh spurns his alma mater, Chicago could make sense as a destination.

A few days ago I said that I thought the Bears would go after Harbough. Or, maybe he is going after the Bears. Either way I excepect the Bears to be in the Harbaugh sweepstakes.

Until the yearly salary issue comes up. And I wonder if Emery will let him pick his own assistant coaches.

Emery might not be here. If Haraugh comes to the Bears, it will be on his terms...which is a good thing. No more keeping certain coaches, etc. However, if did work when Halas hired Ditka and told him that Ryan was his DC, but no one on the current Bears coaching staff is close fo being the coach that Ryan was.
