chris simms. son of phil simms. i still remember him telling dan patrick on his show back during that draft to "keep an eye on jay cutler from vandy". simms sounds no different than any other talking head but i find it pretty low class for them to chuckle to themselves after letting him go as if they're smarter or know more than him about football or whatever.

I agree. Every time I hear about his guy, I immediately think that there is actually no guy at all.

It's funny listening to these two having entire conversations where they both reference fake "guys", phony sources, and made up information as if it is all real.

He said the defensive players aren't as bad as they're making it out to be. he said they have talent, and said they had some talented linebackers. dan goes, "WHOOO??", and then he mentions bostic and says he's young but he could be a good player.

they let him say his piece but the moment he gets off the air they start with the chortling. it's about as disrespectful as you can be for having a guest...i'm not saying what chris simms was all that bright (because it sounds like he was just saying what other people say) but you should show respect as professionals...you know...but they don't.

I felt the same. They mocked him to name LBs and then he named Bostic and Jones, correctly. He mentioned how he was in the Denver locker room with guys that played with Cutler and liked him and they mocked that too.

They just act as tools and hope nobody notices.

true, but you also need to look no further than his three drafts.

His first draft will go down as one of the all time worst

Jones is going to be a player
so is Fuller
Paea will be a HIGHLY sought after free agent this off season

His second draft is possibly even worse.

Jones has very poor instincts. If his understanding of the game improves, he can be an effective player.

Fuller should be good, but he's looked really bad at times during the season.

Paella is difficult to evaluate--he seems to play well when healthy, but he's almost never healthy. He was an Angelo pick.

this isn't used as an evaluation of Emery, it is a response to the question of who is good on their D

Fuller started to look bad as the injuries piled up. He had a broken hand, a hip pointer and on other issue I don't remember. He played through all of these when 1-2 weeks off was warranted. Unfortunately he was facing guys like Calvin Johnson during that run. I thought last week was his first time returning to early season form.

Jones' recognition was his weakness coming out of college. I think he has gotten better but still needs work. I would like to see him more at MLB but not calling plays.

First draft was bad unless Shea becomes a good LB; he'll probably never be better than below average. Jeffery is an elite WR, but that's the only return from the draft. That draft did return Brandon Marshall though which is an elite WR.

Long, Bostic, C.Washington, Mills and M.Wilson could still be a pretty good draft for 2013. They have 1 Pro Bowl player in that group already, and Bostic/Wilson both are likely to be key contributors next season. Neither are proven players or have done enough; Wilson has barley played, but reports are positive on him, and Bostic is a freak who makes too many mental mistake. Next year will be his make or break season. Washington is a late round pick who seems to have improved as a backup DE, and Mills/Greene probably are out of time here. If you can get 3 legitimate starters out of a draft, including one pro bowler, that's a very good draft, but clearly not calling it either way until Bostic and Wilson's fate are determined.

Way too early to judge the most recent draft. Fuller looked good early, had had injuries, and the defensive scheme of playing 15 yards off is not going to highlight a good cover guy. He needs to get healthy, and get back on track next season. Ferguson and Sutton are in the rotation now. O'Donnell has improved. Vereen has had a rough season to date.

Expansion teams start out with more talent than the Bears have now. They are fucked for the next five years at least.

Hawks are on the road tomorrow against the Blue Jackets, not hosting. I think they've made this mistake twice every hour.

Dan would not hire a doctor, lawyer, or accountant who played football. I'm sure that's not his only requirement.

Dan and his wife never buy each other gifts.

He seems to live a fairly joyless life.

Tucker's scheme has sucked from the start. D-Line plays a 2-gap read and catch the blocker, backers are thread and shoot the off gap. Guess wrong up front, guess bad at the backer and you tackle from behind. Single safety (Conte usually) plays deep and has to both stop the run and cover high, not in position to do either. Corners don't get to jam and have to cover/trail with the single high support. Briggs calling plays? He's the Will and has the worst angle, doesn't matter as Tucker wants an offset stagger that gimmicks a muddy blitz (a gap) but gives no run blitz. It leaves an open receiver to be tackled.

The whole premise is the offense will fail to execute.

There is talent, just that the scheme sucks. Tucker
Has to go on black Monday. Cutler will. Follow.

http://sports.cbslocal.com/2014/12/18/b ... ng-honest/

Quote:
Some of us dislike the continuing efforts to make football safer, although we’re resigned to the fact that the NFL has to weave grand hypocrisies to allay fan discomfort that threatens both audience and the talent pipeline. From an intellectual standpoint, this is the position I have painstakingly carved out, tenuous and conflicted though it may be.

I will never allow my son to play football, and think that those parents who do let their kids play are doing something reckless and irresponsible with their son’s brain, unless his lot in life is so awful that football is his best and only chance for improvement. But as a fan, I need these bad parents and difficult existences to keep providing the sport with people willing to break each other in pieces for my amusement.

It’s not a particularly humane stance, I’m well aware, but it’s honest.

This was on the "national" CBS Local Sports site as opposed to the Score's site. Nothing we haven't heard before, but that's some good Señoring for a larger audience.
