What really could be interesting is if the Cubs rights went on the market.

I think we know 1000 will be first in line.

Cubs are a premier station material, 720/780/890. 1000 won't be able to afford them. Besides, they need to get their transmitter fixed first.

Yeah, I highly doubt that 1000's signal reaches the retirement castles in Des Moines.

You can't get it on 355, south of Ogden, and the damn transmitter is right there in Downers.

A big signal reach is important. But keep in mind, the Cubs have affiliates all over the midwest. Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana and Missouri stations carry the Cubs on their local radio stations.

The new owner will put it up to the highest bidder. I'll bet WGN 720 will be that highest bidder however.

Or Tribune will list a condition that WGN-AM automatically gets the rights... or has the right to match any other station offer.

A good business would offer a long time vendor the opportunity to match another offer. There is no reason to switch unless you are unhappy with the product or the price...and the product with WGN seems good.

I think WGN would almost overpay to keep the Cubs. It is a big component of their ratings in the spring and summer and WGN radio and the Cubs have become symbiotic. It would be a massive PR blow if they lost it.

Just wait

Mike North's new buddy Jon McDonugh!

Reinsdorf left in the dirt.

hey, if Mitch wanted to take the risk and overbid for a teams broadcast right, here it is!

I would even think it would take some NY input, but I could see many signing on to take the risk

I agree that espn won't be able to afford them.

The signal does just what the FCC and espn have agreed to let it do. The pattern is redirected after sundown - to the east. The nitetime signal is a remnant from the days of WCFL ownership when it was redirected to the east to benefit the AFL-CIO types out there.
