EXACTLY. One of his two TD came because the Lion made arguably one of the stupidest plays of the year on that punt.

I understand what DS is saying. All I'm saying is Clausen did a OK job for his 1st start in 4 years.
IF he plays good or better next week,he might be worth bringing back next season as a back up.

Fair enough.
However, I believe that pretty much anyone out there could be the Bear backup and perform as well as the pickle did today.

What is the point of this thread? Bears fans consoling each other?

Clausen and whatever his skill is, good or bad, changes nothing for the Bears, who are still stuck with a bad QB for 2 more years and a lot of money.

You can go the route..."well, at least he isn't Clausen" or "at least he isn't Bortles", and that is fine.

But you still don't want Cutler.

On the roster? There is none. I'm not saying there is. But Cutler deserved to take the public lashing and the embarrassment of this "time-out." Without it, I fear when the coaching staff gets let go in the off-season, Cutler would feel as if he were getting a free pass. "The organization knew it wasn't my fault! I'm Jay Cutler!"

Maybe sitting out for Clausen (CLAUSEN!) will humble him, and perfect his craft. If he does have this talent we hear about, maybe he will learn how to use it.

With all that being said, you ask Bears fans to name 15 QB's you'd like the Bears to begin next season with and Cutler isn't on that list.

The top paid QB. Not even in the top 15.

Emery and Phillips gotsta go too.

Bears fans do want Cutler. They just don't know they want Cutler. He suffers from Soriano Syndrome. You look at what's available (not just a wish list), and you say welp, salary aside, which should have zero bearing at all on this, you still want Cutler over whatever is out there.

There is a salary cap. Cutler's contract detracts from the quality of other pieces. Stating "salary aside" is much harder in the NFL than it is in MLB, which is hard enough as it is.

Bears fans want an ideal version of Cutler...one where he plays like prime Favre.

That Cutler doesn't exist.

Bears fans want a reliable option at QB. They're beginning to learn it isn't Cutler.

Crazy as it is for the meatballs to grasp, other teams don't just give away elite franchise QB's.

Cutler is fine. Shore up everything else, starting with the defense. Cutler will be fine There is nothing better available. In the whole world.

Dude I am viewing him objectively. This thread was about Clausen anyway. But realistically speaking Cutler is the better of the two.

Cutler is the best quarterback the Bears have had in over 30 years, and I'm not really thinking McMahon was all that damn great either. He might be the franchise's best quarterback ever.

I don't think this year, and to a lesser extent last year, was really a Cutler problem. This is a management team that is totally in over their heads. They have no idea what they're doing. Cutler unfortunately, with all his physical attributes, cannot perform in a system that is this ridiculously ill conceived.

JESUS man I miss lovie.

Offense was very good last season.

I don't understand this.

Someone speaking the truth. I am tired of hearing the what its when it came to yesterdays game. The Bears scored 14 points and had what 250 yards of offense. Great.
I cannot wait for the revolving door quaterback again. Those where great times.
Also Cutler did not pay himself that money. If you are mad about that blame Emery and Trestman. They where the ones that made that decision.

So this is another variation of the Jay would be great except for excuse thread. By the way Cutler was not better than McNown in the exact same offense with the exact same players. Which is a bigger indictment of him considering how bad McCown is.

You can go the route..."well, at least he isn't Clausen" or "at least he isn't Bortles", and that is fine.

But you still don't want Cutler.

Who is your alternative?
Anyone else. Literally. I'd take Jake Locker on a short term deal. I'll take Brian Hoyer. I don't really care. Let a "veteran backup qb", Fales, and a rookie qb compete for the job. If no good option in the draft is available in the first 2 rounds this year then wait until next year. We aren't exactly giving up a great year of football next year because our quarterback goes from league average to below league average. The way the contract is structured, if you keep Cutler for next year, you are adding in an extra $16 million to year 3 because he obviously is going to be here 3 years if you don't get rid of him now.

The only thing that matters is getting out of that horrible contract with the least pain possible. That means Cutler cannot be on the team next year. It's time to start looking for the next franchise quarterback. The Bears aren't going to be good next year anyways. They are likely firing just about everyone. This season is an absolute train wreck and outside of a few young players there is nothing salvageable here.

As I said before, what we are seeing right now is the end of the Lovie/Angelo era. Trestman/Emery have simply been trying to extend that. It's time for a fresh start. That means that they don't really have a good use for Jay Cutler. They aren't winning with him and they aren't winning without him.

Clausen isn't good and wasn't that good yesterday outside of a few "really nice throws" but it still doesn't erase what this season has proven. If some dumb team will give you a few middle round picks for Cutler you do it without hesitation. Take your chances looking for your next franchise quarterback. I'd rather be the Vikings or Jaguars who are evaluating the next guy rather than throwing Cutler out there another year hearing how this time it will be different.

Move on. Let Cutler light it up for the Jets or Redskins next year. If the Bears are the ones holding down Cutler then that won't change so moving on is in the best interest of both sides.

I can almost guarantee that if you poll Bears fans they will say get rid of Jay Cutler.

Why is it with Cutler apologists they can never say Cutler is to blame. It's always someone or something else. It's the play calling,it's the defense, it's the offensive line, it's the wide outs. It's never Jay's fault. The guy that makes the most money in the NFL this year is never to blame.

He's stayed healthy two years with the Bears and guess what. He's led the league in TO's both of those years.

That's not how I'm reading it. I believe it's like this stupid thread. Cutler is better than Jimmy Fuckin' Clausen. As if that's some kind of endorsement of Cutler. Besides which, I'm not even certain it's true.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, put down your meth pipe.
Clausen does not, repeat, does not give the Bears a better opportunity to win than Cutler. He's not going to manage the game better, partly because he's a terrible 1-10 QB but also because the game plan he's managing is a gigantic pile of horse flop to begin with. Clausen and his unfortunately pinched face does not have the arm strength, the experience, the speed or the intangibles that Cutler has. The one and only thing that he does have is not being Cutler. And once again, the oft proven saying is true again, that the most popular man in Chicago is the back up Bear QB. And as many popular local sayings go, it's really stupid.
Clausen was receiving the verbal blowjob from Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, partly because they couldn't get down to field level during the game to do it for real and partly because they are simpletons who specialize in finding one simple nugget that they can pound into the ground for 3.5 hours in lieu of actual thoughtful analysis because that might actually be hard. And some of you are eating lapping it up like you've not actually seen a football game before.

No. Clausen is not a winner. He's not really even close to a winner. I would be willing to wager that he never gets to a win number half that of his current loss number.

So let's just forget this now please.

Thanks,
Management
Darkside Estates

You're wrong. You obviously had pre-conceived notions about Claussen coming in and were upset that those notions were wrong.

Almost everything you said there about arm strength, awareness and speed is wrong.

So this is another variation of the Jay would be great except for excuse thread. By the way Cutler was not better than McNown in the exact same offense with the exact same players. Which is a bigger indictment of him considering how bad McCown is.

No. That's not at all what this is. What this is, is a thread saying let's not start going apeshit for a guy who threw and interception, and only led the goddamn team to 14 points, 7 of which were on a whopping 7 yard drive after a turnover and the other 7 after an awful ST penalty on Detroit. Both times they scored, it was right after the Bears were trying to GIVE THEM THE BALL and they basically said no thanks, you take it instead.
This is about the superlatives thrown at a guy who ran a terrible offense worse than the starter did.
