That guy should get suspended too.

Every violent collision isn't a cheap shot. Just because your QB got blown the fuck up, doesn't mean it was a cheap shot.

True.

But that particular hit was a cheap shot.

No. Ansah dove before Claussen slid. He was trying to tackle an open field runner, which was what Claussen was before he slid.

How was Ansah supposed to stop his motion while he was in midair? He was running at top speed, and dove.

I just read through all the stuff in the B&B thread. So nothing more needs to be said.

I disagree with you.

There is nothing to disagree with. Claussen was still running when Ansah left his feet.

Ok thanks for letting me know what I can disagree with you about.

Can we agree that a competent QB slides earlier?

When Ansah left his feet, Claussen was still a runner. Watch it in slow motion. Ansah dove before Claussen gave himself up. Ansah came at him like a missile. To expect him to somehow hold up after he had already dove, is expecting him to break the laws of physics.

He stayed up longer than he should have, to try to gain the first down. Big mistake.

He probably will, for helmet to helmet contact.

 And you told jimmypasta to put down the orange and blue kool-aid? Somebody here is drinking in this thread, and its a giant pitcher of silver and blue kool aid.

Ansah was not trying to make a tackle. He dove and lead with his helmet. Watch the reply if you must. You can come at a guy like a missle, blow him, and still not lead with your helmet.

Launching like that and leading with your helmet into another player's helmet is a cheap shot. Doesn't matter if its the QB or not. Its a cheap shot, and its dangerous. This is what the Lions do though.

The issue is not the timing but how he dove. No matter the timing it is a cheap shot to go in on a player like that with your head in that position.

I thought you were done with all of this.

If Claussen slid a step earlier, the hit doesn't happen. He was trying to get the first down. You get hit when you do that.

When you run and then dive, your head is the first thing that hits the runner. Claussen slid to late and his helmet was right in the position of Ansah's helmet. It was unfortunate. For Claussen anyway.

There are helmet to helmet collisions on every single play.

What about the way he lowered his helmet to lead with the crown right at the last second?

Jimmy was an open field runner, and Ansah went low, which is what they are supposed to do. It looks so terrible because of how vicious the hit was. When a huge man, running at that speed dives at a runner who makes a poor slide, a second too late, this is the end result.

But, it also looks like he lowers his chin which produces the hit with the crown. If the chin stays up, while still vicious, it is not as bad.

You are not allowed to lead with the crown of your helmet. That is just a fact. He could have slid 1/1000th of a second before the contact and it still is a penalty and a cheap shot.

This is a rough game. Guys get hit hard. This was unfortunate for Jimmy. This whole "safety" campaign by the NFL has some of you trained to believe that anytime the helmets make contact, it is a cheap shot. Three flags were thrown, it must have been a cheap shot.

The idea that a guy can just alter his path in midair, is preposterous. He left his feet a split second before Claussen.

Do we really need to argue about this for the third day?

It has nothing to do with him altering his path. Leading with the crown of your helmet is illegal and a cheap shot. An otherwise legal hit becomes a cheap shot if that is done.

If he had tackled like he was supposed to then it is a different discussion. The hit was undoubtedly illegal.

Helmet to helmet contact is inevitable in this game.

Nobody has argued otherwise.

When you lead with the crown of your helmet and hit the QB in his helmet, as your beloved Lion defender did, its a penalty and a cheap shot, period end of story. That sort of play gets flagged 100% of the time.

It gets flagged because of the stupid rules, in the name of "safety".

I thought you were done with this.

How long do you guys intend to cry about this?

"safety" is a discussion for a different day. You lead with your helmet, or you hit the QB's helmet, and its a flag 100% of the time.

You are trying to argue against a fact, and I'm not sure why.
