He has been better than even the Bulls thought he would be. Offensively he was definitely going to be an upgrade. What he had done defensively has been a pleasant surprise. The Lakers should demand a refund for his last 2 years with the Lakers and D'Antoni should never get another coaching job. Getting him was better than getting Kevin Love. We all wanted to gut the roster for a guy that sucks so bad defensively that he's getting benched for the entire 4th quarter against the Magic.

He definitely brings that championship experience and he's rejuvenated.

I have been anti Kevin love on this very site for 2-3 years. Not that he is bad, just not for this team.

3's are great, but they cant come from what is considered a max big man.

Nothing better than becoming a 3 pt shooter in the NBA. You get paid, you extend the career, the stats look great, its just an overrated stat and Love is a guy who is a 3 pt shooter. Yes, he can rebound too, but when you are on the PERIMATURE shooting 3's, you dont get O boards and I dont need to sign 6'10 guys to hang out and shoot 3's...I can find guys to shoot 3's for much less money.

Once again, just dont want the guy on my team for the money. Player at a price I dont like.

You're right. You got a guy like Mirotic doing it for a fraction of the price. He's already tougher and a better defender. Not saying he's going to be better than Love but he makes more sense for this team going forward.

How was your holiday Walt? Gasol was the only Laker Kobe liked after Fisher left.

Gasol played like he didn't care the past 2 years. Some people thought it was because he had lost a step or 2. Clearly that isn't the case.

I think it had a lot to do with DAntoni. DAntoni helped in creating the perception that Gasol couldn't play anymore.

I agree. He wanted him to be Marion even though he made a career out of being Tim Duncan Lite.

Pau Gasol changed the legacy of Kobe Bryant. Before Pau came to the Lakers there was a thought resonating regarding his inability to win without Shaq. Gasol was a top ten player at the time and once he came to the Lakers they became instant contenders. It has always been funny to me how the Pau bashers have tended to forget this. Even when he was younger that same group bashed him for playing soft. Kobe Bryant does not win those last two without Gasol.

Kobe didn't have much before Gasol got there. No one was questioning Kobe because the Lakers did not have any talent besides him. Bynum still had not developed and Smush Parker was starting. Gasol was a key piece (The trade was considered theft at the time) but it took more than just him. Phil acknowledged many times how Crazy Kobe helped toughen up Gasol. He was easily intimidated at one point. IIRC they went out and got Artest and others during the offseason too.

it was painfully obvious that Pau hated playing with Kobe and was intimidated by him.

I loved the move, and I love it even more now.

Pau was a top ten easily a top 15 player prior to playing with em the Lakers. He had led his team to a 50 win season. Before he got to the Lakers they'd been seventh and eighth seeds. Kobe Bryant wanted out. When he got there that changed because he now had an elite player to play alongside him. Pau Gasol was a great player before he ever played with Kobe.

I don't believe anyone disputed that Gasol was an elite player. That's why at the time most considered the trade as a gift from West. Kobe taught Gasol how to be tough and what it takes to be a champion. Gasol is now teaching the Bulls players what it takes to be a champion. They already had the toughness.

Kobe Bryant is one of the worst teammates of the modern era. He has won championships so that will compensate for it. I love his competitiveness but his selfishness makes it difficult for anyone to play with him. Gasol was the perfect teammate because he was willing to defer which is required if you're going to play with him.

Listening to Tony Parker and Ginobili talk about their first seasons with Duncan let me know that most all time greats have the same mentality. He wouldn't allow them to talk to him. Said they hadn't accomplished enough to talk to him. Duncan is considered a great person and teammate. Kobe told Smush Parker the same thing and he was considered to be an asshole and terrible teammate. Kobe wants to win and he loves playing with guys that want it as much as him. In the end he and Gasol were on the same page. They tried to bring Dwight Howard along but he isn't built that way.

I say he is a bad teammate because he routinely throws his teammates under the bus. He does it in the media and he does it on the court. Pau Gasol made them an instant contender. Kobe Bryant didn't make him a better player nor did he show him how to win. They had better players than he had in Memphis that is why they won. The development of Bynum played a role as well as a very good Odom but the move that made it all go was the acquisition of Gasol.
