now try cutting back on your meat intake, it can have just as dramatic of effect. a little chicken or turkey every other day is fine, but fuck the red meats.

red meats are hard to digest, if youre going to eat them at least cut way back on proportions. 80% of what you eat should be plants. do that for a few months and be amazed when you notice how good you can feel.

Had a salad from Whole Foods on Thursday, brought it home. Looking to add something semi crunchy to iit, know I have a can of those fried onion ring bits in the fridge, OK pour a few of those on. No big deal, I know its makes it less healthy, but still better than a McAnything.

Phone rings and I am not paying attention, reach into the fridge, grab the can of onion rings, open up and pour....it was the ground coffee! OUCH!

Meat, protein and fat are fine. Bread, sugar and processed foods are the devil.

It is really amazing how you feel when you dump almost all sugar from your diet.

I am now in ketosis mode, where my body is actively using fat as fuel, whereas before it preferred starches and sugars.

It is unbelievable how quickly the weight comes off with a low carb diet. If you haven't done it before, expect periodic plateaus where the weightloss seemingly stops. At that point have some pizza or other carb laden meal and then start up again.

Also, once you move to phase 2 I highly recommend Dreamfields low carb pasta. Tastes just like regular, unlike whole wheat and others marketed as low carb. Also Healthy Life bread for sandwiches @ 3 carbs per slice. Both take some of the depravation out of the diet.

Tough time to start a diet though.

My wife had gestational diabetes during both pregnancies, so she had to eat a very low carb diet, and check her sugar levels many times throughout the day. She still buys Dreamfield's pasta and Healthy Life bread.

Welcome back to heterosexuality, Ike. Extra man points if you cut it with some kind of plastic card rather than a knife.

low carb is the only way I have ever been able to lose any weight. It does work really well.

You can get some pretty good low carb tortillas. I would get a burger or sub sandwiches and wrap em up in the tortilla and eat it. Worked out really well.

Good point with the tortillas.

Another trick for when you're on the road with only McDonald's or similar to choose from is to take off the top bun. Cuts the carbs in 1/2. Works well with egg mc muffins. (I know it's not a healthy choice but works in a pinch).

Update: down 14 lbs in 19 days. Getting down to the nitty gritty now. Only losing like .2-.4 lb per couple days.

I am just staying under 100 carbs per day. Some days I am closer to 70, some closer to 100, but caloric intake is steady, yet way down from before.

For exercise, I am just doing different types of incline/decline/regular pushups, squats, lunges, stretching, and boxing.

I can do 4 times as many pushups and squats without stopping as compared to when I began.

I take a multivitamin every so often to make sure I am not leaching minerals, but it tastes gross when it is settling in your stomach, so I bought some gel caps at the health food store to encapsulate them.

I did lo-carb and one thing I would recommend is Diet Rite soda. They have a few different flavors and as long as it has splenda you are okay. I would try to bring down your carb level. You can buy something called Ketosis sticks and you pee on them. The level of darkness the stick turns tells you how much fat you are burning.

I always found snacks like pepperoni slices and hard-boiled eggs a nice option that were nearly 1 carb.
Turkey sausage is a good way to be lo-carb/low calorie. You can a 1lb tube of it at Meijer on sale sometimes for a dollar.

160 carbs in one bag, and these are usually just a snack before lunch

the problem with diets is you run your system down so slow you cant ever eat again. activity burns off what you eat, which keeps your metabolism engine revving. which allows you to eat and be normal.

Humans are designed to digest and use carbs first.

You should eat more of everything else as much as you can. Get rid of carbs, they're killing you.

Huh?

Load up on steak/chops/seafood, cut down on potatoes and bread and you think the cholesterol levels go down??

may seem odd but it's true. The good vs bad cholesterol numbers improve.

Nope.

I could eat nothing but plain, boiled pasta from now to eternity.........nothing else....my cholesterol numbers will not go up.
Shocking!

That's a different argument. What Scorehead wrote was essentially true (now that's shocking).

It's serious.
Our bodies digest carbs easier and first (before) fats and proteins and other additives. That's what our bodies want to use as energy.

Want to make your body truly healthier? Cut the other stuff out. Not just carbs.

Want to lose weight and still lead whatever (eating) lifestyle you want? Cut out the carbs!

Ok, so you're saying that the lo carb thing is good for losing weight but its not actually that healthy?

It's good for losing weight pretty much no matter how you do it but it's only healthy if you do it in a logical way. That is true for most fad diets though. If you have steak and bacon dinner every day you are just trading some health problems for others.

Honestly though it's just a way to kickstart a different diet. If you eat less calories than you use in a day you will lose weight assuming you hit your minimum required calories for the day. This has always been true.

The problem is that for most people what they eat isn't the problem. It is they aren't getting enough physical activity. Limiting calories + eating more fruits and vegetables + getting more physical activity is better than anything else. However, "EAT ALL THE STEAK YOU WANT AND BE THIN AND HEALTHY!" sounds more appealing.
