Wasnt he there when they hired Emery and Trestman? Didnt he OK this?

Now because he fired them he is "IN CHARGE" ?

And the word is that Teddy is once again the guy calling for guys to come in???

Why is this different?

Allegedly this is all part of a process :) of not just correcting past mistakes but, more importantly, also changing how the entire organization functions from the top down.

david haugh is just the worst

So firing the braintrust that brought us 8-8 and an embarassingly bad 5-11 team is now considered bold? To David Haugh --- making the obvious decision = bold.... and 75-100 radio listeners tune in to listen to this idiot talk sports every day?

I...agree

The fact he didn't go the old Bears route of waiting 1 year too long to make a change is a positive step in the right direction

That's a good point. Bernstein is acting like George already hasn't made moves in the past (like Emery/Trestman), and seems to be arguing that as long as you try something different, that should be easy for people to get behind.

He would have been gone as well if he didn't own the team. No credit other than knowing when to cut losses.

And he said the reason the moves were made was because Virginia was embarrassed and angry.

So if she wasn't, Emery and Trestman would still be here?

I'm starting to worry that he hired consultants from MBB to guide him.

What exactly do people want out of George? I realize that there are people that hate the McCaskeys and there are valid reasons. However, they are the owners and that is not going to change anytime soon. For some I think the only thing George could have done was walked up to the mic and said, "Well, we finished 5-11 and I am going to relinquish control of my family business (which my family also created the industry) to a group of tailgaters from the South Lot."

George took over in 2011 (I believe). The Bears were coming off a season in which they were one win away from the Super Bowl. The next year they missed the playoffs and he fired the GM. He mandated that his rookie GM keep a relatively successful coach for one season. When the GM wanted to fire Lovie, he allowed for him to pick his guy, When it was apparent that the Trestman/Emery show was a failure he pulled the plug, quickly. To insure he doesn't bumble this choice he has hired someone to help who has done this, with success, several times before.

The most familiar successful franchise turnaround this city has seen is the Blackhawks. It really started with the drafting of Toews and Kane, which was actually done by the old regime. Other key parts were brought in several years earlier, during the dark times. The big hire was McD who is the marketing version of Ted Phillips, who in turn hired the Bowmans and two years later the parades and banners arrived.

Could we see a repeat of today again in 3 or 4 years, sure. But, there are some indications that business as usual is changing at Halas Hall. The bottom line is the McCaskey family is going to own the Bears. I am sure over the years there have been Daniel Snyder types that have made offers. Clearly the family want to still own the team. My point is that the swift and sweeping changes have not occurred in a generation. The GM type and coach were never changed at the same time. He is doing what we have been begging him to do.

You asked what I would like to see.

1. The Bears CEO Not crying when someone mentions his mom.
2. The Bears CEO talking when asked who will do the hiring and not the bookkeeper grabbing the Mic.
3. Ernie Accorsi at the Press conference saying he was hired to find a new GM/pres for the family to approve.
4. The Accountant removed, because he is still making calls as the president and will want his guy installed, so he doesnt lose a job.

George actually saying that they need to do things differently.

At least you articulated what you wanted to see. I agree with you on Ted, he sucks. Could care less about him crying about his mom. If my mom was 91 and upset and it was my fault id probably cry a little too. They are doing things differently. They are hiring a coach and a GM at once for the first time ever.

All those major sports teams that promote the ticket guy to CEo are the problem!

If you are going to be a gentleman farmer, stay in the manor house and let your manager manage as he sees fit.

Here is the only thing that has changed.

The Bears have admitted they are too football stupid to find the right guys on their own. So they have brought someone in to give them a list of names to choose from.

But they will somehow become football smart and choose the right guy.

And the guys responsible for choosing the wrong guys will now choose the "right" guy.

Sounds solid.
