But you're the guy who keeps hammering the Peter Principle thing with the Bears! How can you want someone who's never been an NFL coach before?

Well, I wanted Chip Kelly or Mike McCoy when they hired Trestman. Both have done fairly well.

I would wet myself if they hired Gus.

Get me a young offensive minded guy. I'd even take a college guy. Then get me a strong defensive coordinator AND an older offensive coordinator, maybe one with HC experience (but no HC aspirations) to act as a mentor/strawboss on some of the personell issues.

I don't care about an ass kicking head coach but someone has to be an ass kicker in the locker room

I was with you then but I'm not so sure now. Everyone else has passed for a reason.

I know it seems like an eternity but it was less than two years ago and one of those years he was behind the hiring curve because of the super bowl.

Also, the Bears should hire Rex Ryan, because it would be the funniest thing ever.

In his defense, the Score people keep saying it that way.

With Buddy Ryan as DC.

I would be fine with Rex or Shanahan. No matter who you hire, you are rolling the dice. At least there is a body of work on these 2.

Rex Ryan is probably the best choice among guys with NFL head-coaching experience. Hiring him would do a lot to, as they say, rejuvenate the base. Shanahan is probably done as a head coach. He would have been an intriguing Football Czar(TM) because maybe he could have had the Bears doing that zone-blocking thing that turns random dudes into Pro Bowl running backs.

The bolded is classic tallest-midget syndrome. Rex is a dunce. The only area in which he'd be an improvement on the last two coaches is meatball appeasement.

He's a good defensive coach isnt he?

He seems like a more aggresive Lovie with a foot fetish

Proof!

For Ryan, [his firing] constitutes a mercy. Six years as Jets coach—two straight AFC championship games, followed by four straight missed postseasons—did nothing but burning [sic] Ryan's credentials as a defensive genius and one of the league's more beloved player's coaches. He'll be fondly remembered by Jets fans; he's one of the more successful coaches in franchise history, if almost by default. Ryan's going to land on his feet somewhere, and whoever gets him ought to be thrilled.

The Score Midday show just read off the list of the four folks the Bears are looking to interview ... I missed two of them but the other two were Vince Newsome (Ravens?) and ...... Chris Ballard.

The other two were unremarkable names, and upon hearing the names, Spiegel - who spent most of the opening segment holding out preposterous hope based on, literally, a fanciful interpretation of what was said yesterday - was immediately deflated.

Abandon hope, all ye who enter.

Four interview targets for #Bears GM opening: Chris Ballard (KC), Mark Ross (NYG), Lake Dawson (TEN), Vince Newsome (BAL)

If you want to lose weight - eat less.

If you don't like your apartment - move.

If you want to save money - spend less.

If you want to win - hire winners.

This is really not that difficult, Mr. McCaskey.

Give me Rex Ryan or Josh McDaniels (w/ the latter we can ensure that Cutler is gone).

Probably a good resource what with the Bears hiring the league office to help them hire a coach.

So once again the Bears are scrambling to find a coach. We arent even hearing many possible candidates names being leaked. Are they really interested in hiring the Lions DC who has only 1 year as a DC? Really? This doesnt look good.

Why are they scrambling? Because Kubiak wasn't interested?
