Rookie ball to the Southern League in a year and change not too bad either.

He is older than Castro. Great stats but much older than his competition so far.

I don't belive that 25 is out of line for AA ball ... I clicked on a dozen random names from his team and 24 was the age I saw most ... 23, 25, 26, and one 21 year old also.

His age difference at AA Jackson was -0.4.

Average age is 23.8. He was technically 24 for the entire minor league season this year. He does only have 17 games at that level though. I love his stats. His college seasoning/maturity let him rip through those other levels though. I'm sure as hell more excited about him than I was having Ruggiano around.

love that Cubbie Chubbies are having the rug pulled out from under them on what they thought was going to be their first competitive season under Epstien

but just wait for all the big moves for the '16 season

It is a little disheartening that the Cubs World Series chances are leaving town on a plane with Justin Ruggiano.

But, hey, wait 'til the year after next year.

Day late, but I really wanted the Cubs to go after Josh Johnson. Low risk, high reward. He signed with the Padres for about $1M. The Cubs couldn't give him $2M or $3M guaranteed? If he could give you 10-20 starts with a 3.00 ERA; worth the money.

 Hopefully they don't trade E.Jax for prospects. That would certainly signal doom next year. @ Sox Subdivision

I hope Ross really brings those intangibles in spades, because he doesn't bring fuck all else.

Oh you may still be right, Heyman has apologized for jumping the gun and he is still deciding between the Pads and the Cub.

Why would Ross be key to #Cubs? He caught 5 of Lester's 1st 7 starts, and lefty had 2.19 ERA w/43 Ks, 5 BBs. No confirmation from team

Castillo has to be traded now. Who will he go to? White Sox? Or maybe Seattle?

Cubs have grabbed 2 catchers!

CHICAGO -- David Ross and Jon Lester appear to be together again.

The Cubs have reportedly signed Ross to a two-year, $5 million contract, according to FOXSports.com. Several Boston media outlets confirmed the deal on Friday. The Cubs, who would have to make a roster move to open a spot for Ross, would not comment on the reports. The deal most likely is pending a physical.
In 13 seasons, Ross has a .233 career batting average. What's key is that in 29 games over two seasons catching Lester with Boston, the lefty pitcher has a 2.77 ERA with 192 strikeouts over 195 innings.
And, in case you forgot, the Cubs just signed Lester to a six-year, $155 million contract.

CHICAGO -- The Cubs claimed catcher Ryan Lavarnway off waivers from the Dodgers and outfielder Shane Peterson off waivers from the Athletics on Friday. To make room on the 40-man roster, pitcher Donn Roach and infielder Logan Watkins were designated for assignment.

And now both of those guys are gone and the Cubs have claimed Mike Kickham.

The Cubs reportedly have interest in JD Drew to play 2B. Have to assume that means Baez would start the season at Triple A. I'm not sure Drew would be much of an upgrade. Why not sign Rasmus to play CF and play Alcantara at 2B or go big and trade for Zobrist. Maybe if they get him here he will be open to signing an extension(he is from Illinois). Signing Drew doesn't seem to fit what they've been trying to do this off season.

First, the Cubs think they can turn any infielders into outfielders. And now they think they can turn retired RF's into second basemen?

Cubs sign Chris Denorfia to a 1 year deal. Bench guy, hits lefties well. 40 man is full I believe so there's a corresponding move to come.
