He should have been fired then. You ask Lovie's best friend to interview replacements and then you hire the one he tells you is a distant third. That is world-class bad.

I agree. It's weird that Marinelli helped with that process. It's weirder that Emery asked for him to help and then completely disregarded Marinelli's recommendations. The whole thing is just sooooooo Bears to borrow from Bernstein.


Emery could have a job on my staff as a college scout etc. His drafts haven't been as awful as people say.

the only thing i'll give emery is that when he came to town he looked at the team and said "i'm going to go get jay's BFF over here to be a #1 WR" and he went out and got a #1 damn WR for the price of two 3s.

and yes we know brandon says dumb shit akin to drinking samuel jackson beer. he'll get drunk! he'll be fucking fat girls in no time! he might even fight an enwurd or two! NO HE CAN'T STOP YELLING THAT'S JUST HOW HE TALKS! --- but to run the guy out of town because dan bernstein says its time? man.... if you come back with jay or with some new quarterback that proves the stupid point of "WE'LL PAY TOP DOLLAR TO LICK OUR FANS' RECTUM!" whatever hope this team has is pinned on 3 things: the o-line, matt forte, and that #1/2 WR tandem of marshall/alshon. and then if you can get a bonafide #3 in marquess/whoever you've got an instant offense (just add water/playcalls) and if this team can discover a new leader of the team on defense that makes sure jay doesn't have to be that guy (cuz remember the little political powerstuggle when jay showed up on urlacher's team and urlacher wasn't going to let it become jay's team? go figure that's when jay thrived... when he was just another guy)

i just think in the end we're going to end up looking at the trestman era as perhaps the alpo suhonen era of the bears.... this guy was out of his element more than donnie from the big lebowski and in the end it cost the team dearly. all that's left to see is if he ruined some of our big $$$ players by allowing everything wrong with this team to fester from 2013-2014 where it all flourished and ended in the biggest clusterfuck i've seen in 2000s bears history.

yet this team is still a readymade playoff contender.... just add playcalling. i dont have any faith in the organization to hire the right guy after the trestman debacle, so prove me wrong you sons of a piano player you!

Now that the facts have come out there is something wrong with it. Everyone in the league knew he was going to be released and no one was making offers for him. Giving up 2 high draft picks (when no one else was making an offer) was foolish. Especially considering you had to pick up his contract. The Bears could have gotten him for a fraction of the cost (he wanted to play with Cutler) without giving up any picks.

forget the plays he made- he was the only one who actually said anything. i mean forte did speak loudly with his play, but how entertaining is that when none of it mattered? at least the next day i got to hear marshall saying things we all were thinking.

Wouldn't it be easier, and perhaps a bit more palatable, to organize a breakfast, lunch and dinner for the coaching candidate? Breakfast and lunch - meet players and assistants. Evening - dinner with the press, etc. It sounds like Marinelli and Cutler had one-on-one sessions with the finalists.

He was a loose cannon that couldn't get separation this year and ran the wrong route at times. He had flashes of greatness but not enough IMO to make up for being a cancer.
