Don't worry, Thibs will make sure to maximize Butler/Rose/Gasol's regular season minutes so they get booted from the playoffs in the 2nd round.

Is this guy really going to be a consistent star in the league? Or will people figure out something with his game and he will go back to being just a good player.

He's the 3rd option on offense. He plays under control 95% of the time and he's a stud on defense. All those open shots he missed last year are falling now. His offensive game looks polished. Maybe that game winner he hit in the preseason was as big a Stacey King made it out to be.

No. The salary cap will be $80M+ by 2016.

That doesn't help with this summer when hes a restricted free agent.

That's why they will match any offer he gets this summer.

there is no sign that hes a flash in the pan. he has made steady, consistent improvement every game hes been in the league. what you see now is all based on a solid foundation. hes good because he wants to defend, and he actually makes shots. hes always shown good shooting ability, so dont look for that to disappear either.

the only thing teams will have to adjust is to put bigger guys on him... because like derrick he plays a LOT bigger than he is.

Not only is Jimmy improving his game but he also looks like hes ridiculously strong this year. That also wears defenders down. His confidence is at an all time high right now and is gonna be a gonna be a tough defensive assignment for anyone in the league

Thanks Nas and Ike. Like watching him so far. I've been glued to the past three games and think I'm all in for the rest of the season at this point.

I think he loves not having all the pressure on him. It has allowed him to continue to get better.

suffice to say that jimmy butler made a wise decision to eschew the pre-fabbed extension and bet on himself this year.

and sufficeier to say...ier that idk the bulls cap situation; but WEEKS AGO bernstein was saying that butler's playing like a max player and he's gonna likely get well-deserved max $$$. that said, i don't want him to end up going to the rockets or the mavericks or whoever can come up with a crazy stupid deal because we're not going to spend that kind of $$$ on a player. jimmy butler has always had cromulent defense that's a hallmark of the thibodeau era, but now his offensive game is blossoming right before our very eyes. and if he suddenly wants to become a 25ppg guy and THE #1 GUY on the bulls and that means derrick doesn't have to be the #1 scoring option, well then, you're starting to get ready to contend into today's NBA.

and what sucks is butler doing this for himself in this year of all years = you're going to have to lose some guys who are in the top 7-8 positions of your rotation, which means that you better make the most of what you've got this year. i personally dont think lebron's gonna lead this 14-15 cleveland team to jack shit (unless they can somehow make a crazy trade for another super/star to make another "big 3" in cleveland, or hell a "big 4" if you go there with kyrie irving) and then the west is of course crazy, but is anyone here really afraid of the raptors or the wiz?

this might be the bulls' best year, of course unless we're entering the jimmy butler era of the NBA then all bets are off if the guy hasn't finished growing into his star role and it turns out we're only in 4th gear and he's gonna shift it up later in the year....

"This year" and "always" have different definitions.

Butler is going to be one of the tougher guys to evaluate. He is having a max contract type of yr. But is he really a max player. This yr could be an anomaly. My gut says to pay him the money but if you miss you're screwed going forward. The higher cap will simply mean that you overpay for mediocre players. They will also have to decide whether the higher cap will necessitate an increase in the amount of money allowed for max contracts. If Butler keeps this up you have to max him out

Let the rest of the league decide his contract. Just match it. He'll probably get $13M a year. No way he can get more than $15M.
