I'm eager to see what Weigel does with 87.7. They've committed to older audiences on the television side with MeTV and Heroes & Icons (RIP, Me Too, my dad mourns you), so maybe they can give us a bona fide oldies station and not these wishy-washy "classic hits" stations like WLS-FM and K-Hits where it's discouraged to play music by blacks, women, and black women.

Maybe Mac will do pre/post/intermission for the Hawks if Judd leaves WGN to rejoin the Cubs.

Oldies stations used to play that Motown stuff back in the day. Now oldies stations play shitty music from the 80s like Huey Lewis and 38 Special.

Executives in tall buildings outside of Chicago cower in fear at the idea that someone might hear "Be My Baby" and change the station because that's what their voluminous bullshit research tells them. It's ridiculous, especially because Chicago has always been a great market for oldies. I mean, not quite oldies, but the #1 station in the market is the Black Dad station. When 94.7 flipped to oldies while 104.3 was still fumbling around with Jack FM, WLS-FM cleaned up. Then came the memo about keeping things as 1970s-white-male as possible. They put Dick Biondi on the air and told him not to talk between songs because, again, the research shows people change the station. Fucking middle management, I swear to god.

Half-joking, I know the economics are different between television and radio, but I find it very vexing that television is narrowcasting itself into oblivion while radio is scared shitless of airing anything less mass-appeal than Katy Perry, Boston, and sports talk.

Roe was like 27th in the market by the time Cumulus took him off the air. B&B were in the top ten. Roe was competing with the Moody Bible Institute.

My point was back then the demo game was MJH, Roe and Garry and B&B. Advertisers gave a giant fuck about the content. They and the radio owners only care how many Male 2?-54 are listening. Mac brings that right or wrong.
