A playoff team that allows to 7 run innings against them doesn't deserve to win anything. You could see Wake's pitches started to stay up in the zone and Francona just sat there letting it happen.
The fucking hit batter was BS. Schoppach dipped his shoulder into the pitch and didn't exactly attempt to get out of the way of a screeming 50mph knuckler.

Looks like I'll be jumping on that Rockies bandwagon pretty soon.

Nice to see the AL Central still showing they control the AL.

The Red Sox are in trouble.

Beckett has no history of winning big games in the playoffs on the road.

That's ok. SR wasn't going to up anyway.

You just made the list, Keyser Soze. I just might buy it now even if the Red Sox lose.

That one still stings, huh?

I'm guilty of worrying about game 6 & 7 before game 5 was even played. Kinda like a certain "genius" manager of a certain "team of destiny".

Anybody watching the game? I thought Manny's ball was a bomb, although he should have been standing on second.

Jesus Christ, Beckett just threw that ball 100 mph to first base on that tapper.

No, it was a Home run, Manny decided it was a single with the Ellis Valentine-esque hustle. One more reason for instant replay. This one wouldn't have been reviewed more than five seconds. Good thing they have about 17 umpires working these games so they don't miss calls.

Beckett has da fire and da pashion tonight. He just yelled at Kenny Lofton after he popped up. Lofton was yelling back "Fuck You! Fuck You!" repeatedly as he ran down the line. Good stuff right there.

I'm less mad about the non HR non hustle than I am about the 1st inninng nonslide. Manny is Really being Manny tonight.
That said the McCarver tirade was outstanding.

I told you that you had nothing to worry about. Sabathia, the non-big-game pitcher, ran into the presiding champion of the big-game pitchers.

Final Lines

Beckett - 8.0 IP, 1 run, 1 earned, 11 K, 1 BB
Sabathia - 6.0 IP, 4 runs, 4 earned, 6 K, 2 BB

(I sold Beckett short on the strikeouts)

He was dominant, and best of all didn't bite when Lofton went Jo Jo English on him.
I'm hoping Schill has one more of these in his tank.
With the top of the line up contributing for the Sox again, I feel a little better.

Thumbs up to the Fox postgame, for having the footage of the previous Beckett/Lofton altercation at the ready. Apparently, Beckett got pissed at Lofton (when they were on Florida and Philly, respectively) a few years ago when Lofton took a walk and flipped the bat like a jag.

Well that's cause Beckett is racist

I hate Boston. I hate the entire stinking city.

The accents are easily the most annoying accents in the entire U.S. The people are snobbish and pushy. The women are unattractive and skanky. Their version of baked beans are inferior to other versions of baked beans. No one wears red socks (or sox) anymore. Their football team can't even be named after the real city they represent, as though they represent an entire region of the U.S. Imagine the "Southwest Gringos" or the "Sun Belt Retirees". See how stupid that sounds?

I hate Jimmy Fallon and "Fever Pitch."

I hate Dane Cook.

I hate Boston College.

I hate the fact that I could hit homeruns to right field at Fenway.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra has been overrated for two generations.

Al Davis came from Boston. So did Donna Summer, Ben Affleck, Jay Leno, and Barbara Walters. I hate all those people. Perhaps there are some people who came from Boston that I do not hate, like John Adams, but that was a very long time ago.

Feel free to add any specific hatreds you may harbor against "the cesspool on the Atlantic", as I will now begin calling that damnable city.

It would now seem to be an appropriate time to offer heartfelt congratulations to Terry Francona and the Boston Red Sox on the occasion of their 12th American League Pennant.

They have truly proven themselves to be the class of a very competitive American League field. I can not speak for all Yankee fans, but I personally wish them the best of luck against the white hot Colorado Rockies.

It is not, however, without some trepidation that I offer these wishes. Just think, the Red Sox are now within 27 Pennants of the total accumulated by the most glorious franchise in all of recorded history.

In all seriousness, I frequently pick on the Red Sox, and their generally mentally deranged fan base. I do, however, have a great deal of respect for the franchise, their excellent manager, and their fine players (I do wish that Manny Ramirez had more respect for the game of Baseball, but this is not the time to pick such nits.)

I very much look forward to honoring the terms of the wager that I have most decidedly lost.

I like the city. As for most annoying accent, I would nominate the Chicago meatball accent. This may be heard every Thursday at 5:00 when Steve from Bolingbrook calls Boers and Bernstein.

Congrats to Rob on winning his booze. Please post the pictures of the package when the delivery arrives at the Casa de Mustang.

Counselor, Stone? Any closing remarks, Sir? Also overdue is your eulogy on the glorious yankees' early departure from the playoff picture.

I too blew it. My prediction that the Tribe will win it all was off. Underestimated Matsuzaka.

This is probably outside of your practice area, but many of your venerable colleagues representing clients at the traffic court downtown sound just like Steve. Yer uhner,...

Please see my prior post, which preceded your own by approximately 9 minutes.

As for your request for a eulogy, I am confused. Where I am from, one does not offer eulogies for a most vibrant and glorious entity. Please allow me to be the first to predict World Series glory in 2008 for Mr. Donald Arthur Mattingly and the glorious New York Yankees.

Don't you want to wait and see what comes out of the winter meetings before making bold predictions? I get the koolaid intoxication, but I sure hope you're not suggesting that they have enough pitching under contract for 2008.

If I had to guess, I'd think that Zack might be a closet member of the Red Sox nation.
My kids have the Dropkick Murphy's version of Tessie on MVP baseball '05 for PS2. It's highly addictive.

Please allow the record to reflect that I remain willing and eager to pay my debt to Mr. Mustang Rob.

At present, however, I have no knowledge of how to do so, as I can not transmit a bottle of premium Tequila electronically.

Roses,
In this post 9/11 world of ours this might be pretty difficult.
I don't think USPS will do it at all, and Fedex only does wine.
A Binny's gift card may have to serve as a proxy

If I can not send this bottle of Tequila by UPS or FedEx, then the terrorists will have won.

Please let me know how I may best arrange for full and final satisfaction of the aforementioned debt.

Please act quickly, as I must soon refocus all of my attention on the legendary New York Football Giants.
