From MMQB:

7. I think if I were the Buffalo Bills, this is exactly what I’d do: Hire Mike Shanahan. Keep Jim Schwartz with an extension and a raise. And trade for Jay Cutler. Shanahan is the one who found and drafted Cutler and got him going on the right foot in Denver in 2006. The defense is ready to win playoff games now (not just qualify for the postseason), and it’s time to sell out to try to get the big-armed quarterback, who is scarred right now but still far better than the alternatives, to give Buffalo a legitimate offensive chance.

I dont think Buffalo would get Shanahan, so that kinda stops the whole thing

As time goes on Im starting to lean towards some team will want Cutler. Probably a mid round pick.

we could only hope so. then, we'd only need to find a team stupid enough to take Jared Allen.

You have to hope to God that one of these teams will be willing to take Jay and his god awful contract for a 3rd this year and maybe a conditional 2nd next year. 2015 schedule is brutal. With this team constructed now you have a shot at going 5-11 again. Draft a qb either this year or next. The Bears are really kind of fucked right now with all these bad contracts. Cutler,Allen,Marshall are all way overpaid. The only one you can probably move is Jay and MAYBE gain something in return. I'm willing to bet we can grab another qb off the scrap heap that can lead the league in TO'S for 1/4th the cost of Cutler. Maybe use that money to rebuild the defense.
Maybe this new qb can put up yards in garbage time too like Cutler does and convince people that he's decent.

Has Jerry Angelo been hired as a GM somewhere? If not, no one else is going to trade 2nd- and 3rd-round picks for Cutler. The Bears will be lucky to get a third-round pick for him.

cutler is the best QB available.... looking at the list of QB free agents will make you want to throw up. Mark Sanchez... Jake Locker?? Matt Moore?? that is about it.... If I had to pick from that list to select my QB for next year I would have to tell ownership that playoffs are not a possibility... that list almost reinforces the argument that the bears cant trade cutler unless they are preparing to sell to the fans that a total rebuild, ala cub model, is in the works.... but George said in his presser he expects to win it all next year.

I would be ecstatic if they took his contract off the books for a conditional 14th round draft choice.

With the 7th round pick and a new GM,it screams for the Bears to roll the dice on a QB but only if they can trade Cutler for a couple of mid-round or low picks.

might as well keep the fucking guy until you can find a replacement. can't do anything with the money anyway other than give it to other teams' old rejects.

$20 plus million on a qb that doesn't make a difference besides a negative one. If you could get the team to take his contract you'd he happy if it was just that. If you get a draft pick in return your beyond thrilled. The only reason I said a 3rd and maybe a conditional pick is the fact there are alot of teams that are in a better position the Bears are right now that probably believe they just need a qb that can put up points. This team wasn't getting that from Jay this year to justify his contract and he didn't really do anything before that to warrant it either.

Cut your losses as you need to rebuild you defense. I'd rather have Sanchez, Hoyer, Bradford at $2 -5 million than Jay at 20.

As a long suffering Bills fan, would absolutely take Cutler and his contract. Do we really need to go over the list of names that have been the Bills starting QB since Jim Kelly retired.

Todd Collins
Doug Flutie
Rob Johnson
Drew Bledsoe
Kelly Thigpen
Kelly Holcomb
Trent Edwards
Ryan Fitzpatrick $$$$$
Jeff Tuel

And they went 9-7 with four games of EJ Manuel and the Kyle Orton experience.

Jeez, that doesn't even look that bad compared to what the Bears have had.

New owners looking to make a splash.

I bet they pay a 3rd for him too after taking his contract on.

probably... but they'd then be bitching week 3 that the qb play in 2015 is even worse than cutler.

That would be a benefit and not a problem.

The guy is a terminal cancer that doesn't give off the vibe that he is ever going to "get it."

He may finally wake up after a winter in Buffalo, but my guess is they make the play offs and Jay throws three picks in the first half of a play off route.

You could improve other positions with that money.
Not winning either way is exactly why you don't waste the money.
