GM's getting 2nd chances are pretty rare.

I agree about the HC.

Kinda?

How much more emphatic did I have to be beyond "no chance" and "none" for Ballard to get credit?

No retreads...except for Jim Harbaugh of course. I wanted a college head coach. Malzahn, Shaw, Peterson, Saban. 2 years ago I wanted Kelly or McCoy.

The Pace hire looks like business as usual to me. Hire a young guy who is just happy to have a GM job. A guy who Ted can control. I gotta believe that Ballard asked for complete control and that sealed his fate.

I'm good with it.

Glad to hear he had more of a long term plan for the Bears than Ballard did. Of course, that's per Bernsie's guy.

I just want to wish Ryan the best.

I think he'll find there are some really large cafeteria tables for open discussions and the locker room has a lot of couches and long benches where men can sit together. So, there are things in place for success.

Best of luck.

Emery had a long-term plan, too.

As I said in the B&B thread, the question isn't whether or not Pace has a plan. Any idiot can put a plan together. The key question is whether or not he knows how to execute the plan.

Aren't most good GM's that you would want that have done the job before either employed? Or fired as they were bad? Don't most GM's in general come from the director of player personnel ranks?

I'm shocked with this decision.
I still think Eric DeCosta has more experience and the Bears would have been better served by giving him an offer he couldn't refuse.

CONS:
He's never been a GM before.
We do not know if he'll challenge the current Bears power structure or be Teddy's little bitch.

PROS:
He's been involved in a winning organization
He's not part of the long-running Bears problem
He does appear to be more savvy than Angelo, Emery, Phillips, and the McCaskeys combined.

I like this decision over Ballard. Time will tell.

I will give the Bears credit for being unpredictable and doing what they said in terms of acting quickly and hiring a GM before they hired a head coach.

for the Record...Hub printed they made the right choice. If in 3 years, Hub says the Bears rolled the dice on an unknown and lost...he can be called a liar.

There are very few GM's that get a 2nd chance. I believe all but 4 GM's in the NFL are first time guys.

Hang on.....did Gabriel really say that Ballard's organizational opinion scared the McHalfwits?

Now I'm getting a little worried.

It is interesting. Think of the L-T damage a GM can do to an organization...ie Angelo, Emery...does Angelo walk into his next interview and say..."well, I had to run my personnel decisions past an accountant and lucky sperm club that didn't know anything about football."

I'd love to hear Angelo and Emery talk (candidly) about how they'd go differently about McClellan, Danieele Manning, Chris Williams? (OL that came here and needed back surgery)

Ballard scared McCaskey/Phillips by talking changes in organization structure.

Ballard talked about organizational structure and Pace focused more on how to build the team.
