OK now I'm pissed.

So Ballard wanted to change the way things are done but the McDipshits aren't for that. Remember what George said? If we find the right guy we are open to changing the way we do things.

Horseshit.

From what Gabriel and Bernstein just said, it sounds like Ballard didn't want to report to Phillips.

Ballard wanted the Bears organization restructured, but those "in the room were more interested in hearing how he was going to put together a winner."

Translation: Phillips saw Ballard as a threat to his position.

Bingo.

It seems like Pace represents more of a continuity with McCaskey-Phillips thinking than Ballard did.

That's what everyone said about Ballard yesterday.

Can we get some type of cohesive narrative here? Please?

Ballard scared McCaskey/Phillips by talking changes in organization structure.

Yes, we should all stick to our opinions regardless of emerging information.

One of the biggest losers in Ballard not getting the job is the guy talking.

This information is coming from multiple sources and has been stated in multiple ways.

So, sounds like Ballard was a front-runner until McPhillips determined he wasn't just thrilled to be coming back to be a Bears lackey with the title of GM.

Even if this rumor is true, if Pace does his job well and has to stay on his knees to Teddy, the org structure is irrelevant. Good drafting reduces the likelihood / need for FA contracts.

Pretty much.

That's not to say that Pace won't succeed. But he will have to do so in spite of the McPhillips Albatross.

At some point, they are going to have to change the way things are run.

But they've won zero Super Bowls doing it their way so what do I know.

And from the sounds of it, Ballard would not have been a typical "bringing back a Bears guy" hire. He wanted to change things and Huey and Duey aren't willing to do this.

That's not necessarily true since we don't know how much Ted is willing to budget for scouting and other areas that the GM might regard as essential for implementing his plan.

Maybe Ballard wanted to change the way things are done more than Pace did and changing things means Teddy gets a new role.

I think it's obvious this was the deciding factor. They don't want to hear their organization isn't run correctly. Just focus on the team.

Listening to Bernstein tell us what Hagel (His Source) told him, it sure sounds like this is what happened.

would Ballard really be appealing for a reduced Phillips role during his interview with.... Ted Phillips....??

it was pretty clearly stated in the presser that Goerge was fine with the current structure... he stated they'd be open to change but he also said he believes the chain of command (HC-->GM-->Pres-->Ownership) as is was fine

i can't argue with that, but Pace is taking the job knowing the Bears and their history....know what you are walking into. I think we are too far into the weeds here. He will have to have some say on the scouts and has to know he's on the hook for who gets drafted.

Yup. I like Ballard more now than before this came out. He basically told the Mchalfwits what is wrong in the Bears organization, & they were not willing to make organizational changes. This is a big win for Ted & a big loss for the Bears.

Absolutely. Ballard has a job. He's not coming in "hat in hand".

I've interviewed for positions where you just say "this is how it needs to be" because that is how it needs to be or the job just doesn't interest you. This seems to be one of those jobs.

You know, if this report is true, whatever source leaked this information really hates the Bears because this continues to make them look like fools.

You are wrong again.

You think he doesnt have a source.

My issue with him is that his Source doesnt give him info all day and night as he says.
