We know Weigel (WCIU, Me TV, Heroes & Icons, TouchVision) is taking over the lease. It'll be their first foray into radio.

Any info or educated guesses as to what they'll do with it?

Would be nice to get a second alternative station in the city.

There are like 10 pop/hip hop stations, and 5 country stations.

Two country stations in the city and one in Joliet, but that's two too many.

I don't know about having another alternative station. I'm not sure that the market could sustain it. The modern alternative format was in its death rattle before PDs retooled the low-income butt rock (or "active rock," as they prefer) out of the playlists. Remember how awful Q101 was by the time Merlin killed it?

I was referring to the newer dancey / indie stuff. It is an easy listen, gaining a lot in popularity, and could keep the kids off Spotify.

Between Q101 and XRT, do we need a third station playing Foster the People and Broken Bells all day?

How about a station that just plays movie soundtracks and TV Theme songs?

At least it would be unique.

Kids listening to that aren't listening to terrestrial radio. Or ads.

Unless you mean the techno-pop shit, already tons of formats for that

This would be fantastic--Dylan, Byrds, Gram Parsons, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Wilco, Drive-By Truckers, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Bright Eyes, Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown, Old 97s, Jayhawks, etc.

This is what 87.7 was doing briefly before the smooth jazz scourge took it over.

18 hours a day of Rafer Weigel sounding like he doesn't know how to read.

Hard rock is certainly dead, as far as radio formats go. WIIL Rock hangs on because there are enough dirtbags around Round Lake Beach who like to listen to Nickelback while they work on cars.

I take my aluminum empties to a place in Kenosha a couple times a month because I refuse to
buy the blue recycling bags when I can use the black bags I already have and MAKE money on my garbage.
Without fail, WIIL is always blaring from the warehouse.
Nothing like the sound of Natty Ice tall boy cans being crushed down in harmony with the dulcet tones of Buckcherry's one hit.

WIIL Rock might as well set up a summer residency at Blarney Island.

There's a Music Choice channel that plays a lot of movie soundtracks.

There's also an Easy Listening channel. Hey, there's a format for old people! Cloying string arrangements of Beatles songs, that's the ticket.

The Fox is turning into quite the little holding pen for erstwhile Chicago radio talent: one of Sherman and Tingle from Q101, Pat Capone from the Loop, and now Quigley. It's not a bad signal the Fox has, but their stick is way out in fucking Gilberts and their format is redundant. I'm surprised ownership hasn't just made them a simulcast of their half-sister station WIIL Rock.
