Agreed. I think and hope.

That's all we can do.

I feel more confident in this hire than I did Emery for whatever that's worth

Not a good move at this level. Especially if you believe in what you have to offer.

The fact is, if you draft well the world will be at your doorstep. All the other stuff, including hiring a good coach, leads to success. However, if a GM shows that he can stock a team with talent, people will be pretty satisfied with his work.

Depends of the context, when often used to address Berns it is in fact pejorative.

I thought the origin of this is Nort. When used in his heyday, it may have been in fact complimentary. I don't think that is the case now.

Yes. Power structure means nothing. If Pace can draft players that actually play on Sundays...and this is possible...then it won't matter that Teddy is in charge. We shall see very shortly.

I think it was Wash Post did a draft analysis. Bears were dead last in prior 5 year and 10 year period. That's a slight problem.

How can you make such a statement with any confidence? Ballard worked for the Bears for a long time, and he apparently viewed the organizational structure as an impediment to success. Why is your opinion more valid than his?

This.

And when we now see clearly how much of a dolt Tresty was in year one, and he still almost made the playoffs.

Umm, yeah, but most of the impact players on last year's team were acquired via trade or free agency, so what's your point?

And Greg Gabriel's exact quote on FOX Sports last night was "maybe Ballard asked"

Hardly a declarative statement.

Dolphin's point, which I agreed with, which is draft well and the rest will take care of itself. Regardless of who the coach is or who gets to order Starbucks for the office.

That's not what his exact quote on the Score was yesterday. Nor was it anything close to what Bernstein's source said.

I wonder if Ballard ran out of time or forgot to mention drafting well in his multi-year plan. Pointing out issues in organizational structural probably consumed 95% of the interview.

Hagel is NOT HIS SOURCE.

Is Greg Gabriel his source?

He may be.

I promise you it's not Scott Hagel.

Funny stories about Bernsy's time at Halas Hall will be told privately.

Wait a second. In the B&B thread you definitively state that Bernstein has no source. Now, though, you're agreeing that he has a source, but it's not Hagel?

And you accuse others here of "talking out of both sides" of their mouths? Wow.

They replayed it verbatim on FOX last night.

So did Tanny or drinky doctor the tape before sending it over?

Beardown, are you aware of this?

Here's Seacrest's verbatim quote from the B&B thread:

Seacrest wrote:
Hatchetman wrote:

He doesn't have a source.

And when you don't face team personnel or management, ever, you can make up anything you want and the day to day reporters are the ones that are asked to answer for your stupidity. Which btw, is the exact same behavior that made Marriotti such a pariah amongst the reporters at the ST.

Embarrassing!

OK, I stand corrected, assuming you're not making stuff up.

But Bernstein's source was explicit on this issue.

Pace spent the last two seasons with the Saints as the director of player personnel, meaning he managed the team’s college and pro scouting operations.

Ryan Pace enters his first season as the Saints Director of Player Personnel in 2013. He will work closely with Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis to oversee the club’s college and pro scouting operation and all aspects of scouting and evaluation of college prospects and professional players, including the Saints roster.

That's from the Saints website. That's about it.

The biggest issue with Trestman appears to be a total lack of respect for the guy from all quarters. So I can see ownership looking at a one more chance scenario, but I believe that is a huge mistake.

He is just the latest version of Jeff George. I guy who from all appearance lacks the requisite character to be successful at that level.
