Has a third string college quarterback ever won the national championship?

I think of big10 being as conservative in a lot of ways. My experience is different.

I'd have to doubt that. Amazing run by the Buckeyes. Jones and Zeke were fucking incredible.

Should be 16 teams.

Way too many games. Like NFL playoff expansion I feel that would bring in some mediocre teams. 4 is fine for now.

I don't know what you consider the foreseeable future. I think PSU is on the rise and with a natural recruiting base that is equal to or greater than OSU. Also, Wisconsin had already chipped away from the Big 2 even when both were good. I don't know what to think about Nebraska's future.

Im a casual fan of college football, but it seems obvious to me that Meyer is building (has built) a machine (dynasty type stuff) and the rival just got a proven huge coach. Im guessing Michigan is going to improve dramatically too.

Wisconsin always seems to keep up. Not sure about PSU

This championship run is a primary example of the importance of coaching in college football. There is no doubt in my mind that a lesser coach loses each of these last three games. Maybe not Wisconsin, but no way a lesser coach beats Alabama or Oregon with the same players.

Franklin coached Vanderbilt to be competitive in SEC. I think he's a keeper.

8 would seem to be the perfect number. Add one more week. 4 more games. That first week would be awesome.

Franklin is a difference making coach. The guy went 5-3 and 4-4 in consecutive years in the SEC with VANDERBILT. Look out when they have full scholarships again.

I am a fan of the SEC due to my Arkansas allegiance, but the Big 10 has gotten a lot better and will continue. Ohio St. is there, Michigan will be there shortly, Michigan St. will be preseason top 10, Penn St. will be better. I am interested to see what happens with Wisconsin, Barry has his own regime in there now, let's see how they can compete.

I also think Nebraska made a huge mistake with their coaching hire.

I have said before that people were wrong in attributing SEC dominance exclusively to the superiority of the players. The coaching in the SEC was its greatest strength.

NW needs to realize that now more than ever they cannot match up with the big boys in the conference and get innovative with their offense.

Michigan should prepare to suffer a bit. Harbaugh will improve that team but they have a ways to go to compete with OSU or even MSU.

The Big 10 is pretty strong. It does seem that PSU is likely to start making some noise. I think Nebraska screwed up their coaching hire but that's another sleeping giant but I don't expect to hear from them for a while.

OSU is at the top, MSU and Wisconsin are a step down but still top 10 level programs. Michigan would do well to be a top 20-type program next year.

I think they're a good 3 years away from being where OSU already is.

where OSU is is the national champion

3 years until championship caliber would be an acceptable timeline to anyone with 4 probably being the most realistic.

I think UM is an above .500 conference team next year. I would bet they are in a NYD bowl game in 2.

B1G is very top heavy (not a bad thing if the top teams compete for the NC). There are a couple of extremely strong programs.
But I don't see the 6th, 7th, 8th teams in the B1G doing what the Mississippi schools and Arkansas did this year, for example. Tennessee is on it's way back up as well.

NIU plays Ohio State next year. How much will they lose by? 80?

Michigan could be above .500 in the conference next year. They play Maryland, Rutgers and Indiana every year. Pull off one win in the division that they shouldn't and that virtually assures them of .500 or better.
