where OSU is is the national champion

3 years until championship caliber would be an acceptable timeline to anyone with 4 probably being the most realistic.

I think UM is an above .500 conference team next year. I would bet they are in a NYD bowl game in 2.

I agree with all that but I get the feeling that UM folk think they're going to be on par (as in a top 5 program) with OSU by next year or the year after at the latest.

They'll be lucky to be there by 2018.

I think it's against Meyer's nature to ever take a knee. For some reason, it doesn't bother me with him. Wish the Illini (or Bears) had a guy like that.

He even mentioned the margin of victory (22 points) in the post-game...

I saw some people on social media complaining about him not taking a knee.

I get it completely. 2 TDs is not that big of a lead vs. an offense like Oregon. You do not take any chance that something really strange happens and you end up tied or down

Agreed. They fumble a snap or something and the guy returns it and you've got a one-possession game.

Win the game.

Whatever is necessary today.

Exactly, it is the National Championship game, take no chances. You might have a idiot drop the ball going in the end zone.

Should be 16 teams.

That's ridiculous. Do we need to see more of Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Clemson?

It will remain the way it is I believe for the next 5 years or so, I think that is the way the contract was worded. I could see it going to 8. I just saw it was the largest cable audience ever I believe, 33 million.

The network announced Tuesday morning that Ohio State's win over Oregon generated an 18.5 overnight rating, ESPN's highest metered market rating ever. The previous record was a 16.1 rating for the 2011 BCS national championship game between Auburn and Oregon. Last year's Florida State-Auburn BCS title game drew a 15.3 overnight.

8 would be great with me too. But I am just thankful to have 4. That was a lot of fun to watch.

4 is just fine

Sure there was some question about whether TCU/Baylor belonged, but what do you have for the other 2-3 spots? This is a tournament of champions.

Here how college football should (will) look:

Right now there are 10 FBS conferences plus 4 independent teams. 5 of those conferences are BCS conferences, and that's where we will start.

Create a top tier football division made up of 5 BCS conferences. That will be 64 schools.

Similarly, create a 2nd tier football division made up of the remaining 5 FBS conferences and 4 independent teams (figure out how to get ND into the top tier later). That will be 64 schools.

Each division will be broken up into 4 regions (West, North, East, South). Each region will have 16 schools. Further, each region will be broken down into 2 sections with 8 schools apiece.

Every team will play an 11 game schedule including the 7 schools in their section, and 4 schools from a different region.

Section standings rule in this set up and provide for an 8 game playoff. The top team from each section will play for the region championship. The region champions will then be entered into a 4 team playoff for the national championship.

The other schools in each section will play the school of equal standing the opposite section in their region to determine final region standings.

Now here's where it gets even more interesting. The top 2 teams from each region in the 2nd tier football division get to move up to the first tier the following season. Likewise, the bottom two teams in each region from the top tier will be relegated to the 2nd tier.

This provides an 8 team playoff, where the best teams are play each other every year. Shitty programs like Illinois and Purdue will be relegated to playing programs they can compete with, and other teams like NIU or whomever have a chance to play with the big boys.

i agree; i think the games will start to get a little more competitive too...the playoffs were kind of blowouts. but we saw the right teams lose so it made a lot of people happy.

but i'd love to see 8.
