Kubiak agreed to be the Broncos coach a long time ago.

Pretend he did want to coach the Bears, how Kubiak any different/better than Fox. Eight seasons in Houston, under 500, and never even made an AFC Title Game. At least Fox made a Superbowl, twice.. So throw out the one with Manning, Fox went to a Superbowl with Jake fn Delhome.(and a field goal way from beating Tom Brady with him).

I get not being in love with the hire, but don't shit on stuff like medicore and then cry for Gary Kubiak.

I will now fuck myself.

Bumpkin,

I think Fox may be the first coach ever hired by the Bears with NFL head coaching on his resume, other than George Halas.

So, that is hardly a Bears thing.

You are all correct in that Fox has coaching experience. He just seems like Lovie 2.0 and he was successful because of Goober.

I really don't know how this will all pan out, it just seems like the easy way out. I liked the Ravens under Kubiak and would have liked to see him as coach.

Yeah, Kubiak as a head coach never got it done.

Can we agree to disagree? Or do I need to go fuck myself?

No need to. It's all good.

Can I be next to Fuck myself?

No one is saying Fox is en elite coach. Kubiak isn't one either. I like Kubiak as candidate, but he refused to interview with the Bears.
Bowles, Quinn, and everyone else you mentioned have ZERO head coaching experience. They are bigger risks. My biggest caution is since they lack experience and are young they will have a more difficult time building an experience, competent staff of assistants and coordinators.

John Fox is simply the best available option. Doesn't mean he's perfect, but there's not much else you can do.

I'm all for ripping the Bears organization...the deserve it..but you have to give them credit here. The correct decision was to fire Emery and Trestman...they did it. The correct decision was to hire a GM and let him hire a head coach. They did that.

If ever there was a time to be optimistic as Bears fan, it is now. The Bears finally went out and hired a real experienced & professional head coach. No more experimental peter principle guys. Fox will be loved by fans in Chicago.

Why do you believe Fox is anything other than a slightly better version of Lovie Smith (if that)? Prior to this season, Smith's career winning pct. was .565; Fox's career winning pct. is 570. It could be reasonably argued that Smith has coached less talented teams than Fox has.

Would a slightly better version of lovie Smith had a super bowl win in 06?

Maybe. Do you believe Fox is a better coach than Smith? As I suggest above, one could argue that Fox has achieved virtually the same results as Smith while Fox has had the advantage of coaching better talent.

Lovie had some of the best defensive talent of the 2000's.
Anyway who the hell knows. Fox is probably the best coach available to the bears. Let's see what he does. Otherwise we're just speculating. It's fun. But it's pointless.
No matter who the coach is the next couple years are likely to be rough.

Hub had an AP writer from Denver who covered the Broncos. There were quite a few interesting tidbits:
Believed the Fox and coaches had one foot out the door before Indy game.
Indy game wasn't an indictment of Peyton but of poor coaching (not prepared, poor planning) on both sides of the ball.
Gase is still well-regarded but Broncos feel nothing lost without Fox/Del Rio
Beware of Denver o-line coach Magazu. Fox is pretty loyal so hope he doesn't come with. Magazu was a poor coach of o-line and his room had a country-club atmosphere.

He felt the "mutual-parting" was a good riddance.

Fox has guys. He will have no trouble finding an offensive & defensive coordinator. Lovie had trouble filling these positions for 9 years.

You wont be able to use the winning % argument after another year or 2 of Lovie working his magic in Tampa Bay. His winning % is in rapid decline

How so? Defensively both had talent, so that washes out. Outside of Steve Smith, what elite talent did the Panthers ever have on offense?

Fox won't struggle to find coordinators and isn't afraid to hire ones that could bolt for HC jobs. Fox has also been more adaptable over the years to fit the talent on the teams he coaches where as Lovie, as we should all know, is really only good at doing one thing. And while Fox didn't get the SB win with Manning, he at least got there and was in the playoffs pretty much every year he was in Denver, including a year he didn't have Manning.

John Fox is only as good as the coaches and coordinators he hires? Unlike just about every coach in the NFL he doesn't have a system. He allows his coordinators to run their system. I don't like that.

From Biggsy's column:

Brace yourselves, Bears players.

If the past is an indicator of gut-check introductions to come, new coach John Fox is going to deliver unvarnished reality.

Former Panthers defensive tackle Brentson Buckner remembers Fox walking into his first team meeting after taking over after a 1-15 season that got most of the building cleaned out.

"He said, 'You were 1-15 and they got rid of all the coaches,' " Buckner recalled. " 'None of those coaches played. None of those coaches dressed on Sunday. A lot of reasons you were 1-15 are sitting in this room, and it's my job to weed you out.'

We have a new coach and we don't know what system will be put in place on offense or defense.
