Maybe, maybe not. All that matters is his drafting skills, signing the right FA's and hiring the right head coach. How he looks in a press conference means little in the grand scheme. Best of luck to him.

You are assuming he has the control to do any of that and are hoping he knows what the hell he is doing. Given that he sounds like nothing more than a Ted Phillips mouthpiece speaks to the central issue and problem.

Ted Phillips is running the Bears and Ted Phillips is a fucking accountant.

This is like the Bill Wirtz days. Until this franchise is sold (or a Rocky Wirtz emerges from the McCaskey clan) nothing will change and they will continue to be nothing more than a laughingstock.

Forget it Bears fans. This franchise is toast until it is sold.

5 years? How much per? $3 -4 million? Gotta believe this guy would have taken 2 or 3 years.

Teddy wants nothing to do with drafting players or hiring a coach.

Then why will be sitting in the interviews for a head coach?

I think if you tried, that you could think of three reasons right off the top of your head.

So, then this would be reason one that he doesn't want to hire a coach himself.

Pace himself said it's a collective decision. This entire he said/he said BS is what the Bears are about: a total lack of accountability and George McCaskey (by keeping Phillips) has allowed it to continue ad nauseum. That's why Ballard was not hired. He wanted control and Teddy said no and George said OK Teddy.

It's a clown show!

Great, we hired the intern as GM to go get Ted and George's coffee.

Never hired a coach in his life or evaluated one, and he is supposed to find the Bears coaching answer for the next five years. And then he is supposed to replenish the Bears team with talent through the draft, when he hasn't done that either.

As for these comparisons to Theo, who said Theo was any good? He's left a trail of bodies behind him, now on his third coach in four years and still the Cubs haven't won anything.

Pace might as well be Eddie Murphy in Trading Places for how he will be learning on the job.

That said, I'm hoping for beginners luck, cause we got nothing else.

He gave up the last first class seat on the flight back from Denver to John Fox.

This shows a boss being overly deferential to an underling and a guy that is in over his head. Problems lie ahead.

Oh, and Fox wore a suit coat. Guess who did not.

Well, Pace totally redeemed himself with the Fox hire. As painful as last season was for the Bears and fans, it was a good thing and resulted in changes in both personell and hiring philosophy. Last season had an impact on the way the Bears do business and they realized that they need to change who and what they hire. Both the GM and head coach were hires like no other Bears hires in recent history. The NFL is a league where teams can go from first to last, and last to first. Anything can happen. I feel really good about the next few years.
I'm all in.

Agree with a lot of what you typed here. I understand that even this might fail -but at least the Bears appear to have gone about this in the right way, especially hiring an actuall head coach with real NFL experience and even some success.

I am about as optimistic as I can be after a season like the one we just had to sit thru.

You're confusing respect with being overly deferential here. Fox is a guy he is hoping to work with for years that he made a friendly gesture to by doing something like this, not a big deal.

If you want to read into something Pace has said and done, I'd lean towards his interview with Holmes and Mannely (sp) where he was asked about retaining the current staff and he talked about it 'being fare' to do so. I would have preferred him to word it in a way where he'd like the HC he brings in to make that call and retaining these guys was a means to ensure that this can happen.

But I don't think this is a big deal either in all honesty.

Well, given where the bears are in just 3 weeks since the season ended, I'd say they're in a lot better shape. If someone told you before the season ended that the bears would fire Trestman and Emery and then hire John Fox as head coach, you would not have believed it.

If someone told you the Bears would win 12 games before the season started you'd have told them to have their head examined.

Well you had your guy Tresty ahead of "the worst coach in the North" McCarthy within the last year so I'll give just as much credence to that statement as all of the others you've made over the years.

I think its safe to say this franchise is fucked until Rodgers retires. Half a leg and he almost beat Seattle at home.

What do you and Aaron Rodgers both have in common with the Bears and their fans right now?

We're all going to he sitting at home watching the Super Bowl.
