On the pregame with Laurence Dougie told us that he liked the Benson selection when the Bears took him with #4 but then forgot why. He also mentioned that a few days ago Goff played Benson's Texas highlights on youtube and it reminded Doug of the greatness that he saw then and as to why he was elated when the Beloved got him.

Well, I watched the same highlights and saw a whole lotta bad run defense, bad tackling, bad pursuit, bad angles, which are factors more prevalent on college level than in NFL. I also noticed that first half way decent contact by a defender brought Benson down. Benson did have some success avoiding defenders when running at full speed in an open field. The separation between him and such defenders must have been at least 3-5 yards when he would change the direction making the defender miss. Bring the defender closer and Benson goes down or out of bounds on contact.

Blaming doug for incorrect memories of past events is like blaming the sun for rising in the morning.

For the record, I wanted Cadillac Williams.

A lot of fans did. If the Bears passed on Benson, there would have been a huge outcry. Much like the Enis pick, when you are picking that high, these guys are automatically taken. If they don't work out, that's how it goes.

I don't know any Bears fan who wasn't excited to get Benson and I don't know anyone who predicted he would be this bad (at least anyone who made the prediction before his first season). Hell, even toward the end of last year he was light years ahead of where he is now.

I seem to remember a lot of people seeing him cry at the draft and have major questions about him. That just screamed out head case.

I seem to recall MANY times last year when he'd get in for a series or two, tear it up, and everyone would be begging the Bears to keep him in (they never did).

As has been said before, last year he had to fight for pt and he ran hard. This year he was given the job with no chance of him losing it and he runs softer.

Loved the old thread link. Hated Benson then, hate him still. Same goes for Moose.
