When I read that Fowler could get a qualifying offer I laughed but then I remembered Michael Cuddyer received and rejected a qualify offer so I guess anything is possible.

Since becoming a full-time player Fowler has averaged 128 games played a season. Averaged 118 in the past two. I'm shifting my position to he's probably going to drive me crazy.

Eaton vs. Fowler games played? I'd set the line at Eaton -3

You think they traded for him for one year, a year that, despite outward appearances, management has to know is most likely another dead one? That doesn't seem to be the way they work

If Fowler is here for one season, that is not a very good trade.

Qualifying offer nets a pick.
That shouldn't matter anymore. Its time to win. Its been 3+ years of the Cubs sucking to get picks.

I understand your point, but teams need to ALWAYS make right decisions, thats how you avoid NEEDING to rebuild

You still can be competitive now while maintaining a strong organization going forward.

When the Sox traded for Shark his eligibility for a QO was factored into the trade. Like every trade the assets exchanged are all weighed.

Starting pitching is a lot of more a commodity than a Folwer type outfielder. Nice try though.

A .366 OBP / .786 OPS switch hitting lead off hitter has a ton of value.

I'm not comparing the players. I'm saying since both will eligible for a QO the price was higher than if they weren't. QO eligibility can be discounted but not disregarded.

You know with almost 100% certainty Shark will not accept the offer. It is far less sure with Fowler.

Even if he accepts, the QO is probably going to be around $14m-$15M and for one year that isn't going to cripple a franchise. The bleachers should be done by then!! :eye:

I'm going to walk back my concerns about Fowler's range in CF a bit.... examine this overlay
