This is a pattern for the Patriots. http://deadspin.com/report-nfl-was-aware-of-patriots-deflation-allegations-1680914291

Patriots are going to be in line for some draft picks being docked here. They were caught red handed.

Why do deflated balls favor the Patriots?

I'd guess if they didn't think it favored them they wouldn't deflate them

Yup.

The teams are in charge of their own balls when on offense.

I understand that the Patriots may favor deflated balls. I'm just not sure how deflated balls favor the Patriots. I think calling it "cheating" is a little over the top. It's more like watering down the first base line when you're afraid to face the awesome speed of a lineup featuring Fowler, Alcantara, and Castro.

How hilarious would it be if Belicheck were suspended for the Super Bowl?

Sean Payton got a whole year off for something that probably had less impact on the games.

I just see it as a preference. I realize there is a standard, but way too much is being made of this.

What do you mean?

It makes it easier to throw and catch and hold onto when running especially in bad weather.

The Colts were not throwing and catching the same balls. They had their own properly inflated ones.

Belichick probably fired somebody because all 12 weren't deflated.

And I just heard that Aaron Rodgers prefers overinflated balls. (You can insert your own joke.) I don't believe the condition of the balls makes anything "easier". It's really just a preference, liking saying blondes are better than brunettes.

Not only did the home run not count, thanks to Yankee's manager Billy Martin, Brett was declared out. Following the same logic, Brady and Belichick should be out for the next game.

The Patriots clearly thought it made things easier. So did whoever made the rules making what they did illegal.

The Colts were getting smashed no matter what but it still doesn't mean it wasn't an advantage.

It's not a competitive advantage, like having an over-inflated ball that would go farther when you kick it.

It's a preference - Aaron Rodgers prefers just the opposite.

Maybe a fine/suspension/loss of a draft draft pick, but chain-of custody issues mean nothing more than that will come of it, especially since the league was made aware of it before.

The Brad Johnson story (if true) is much troubling for the league.

Edit: posted before seeing that JORR made similar points.

It makes a huge difference depending on the size of the Quarterbacks hands. Rodgers has huge hands, that is why he likes them overinflated.

Or Brady simply likes the balls that way. The real issue is that it's dumb that they aren't using the same game ball.

Chain of custody isn't an issue. The league checked them directly at half time.

"The majority of quarterbacks, I would say more than half, are maybe on the other end of the spectrum and like it on the flatter side,"
said Rodgers.

Actually you can get a ball that is underinflated further than a overinflated one. A overinflated one will not compress as much.

They usually check them prior to the game and at halftime.

From what I'm hearing from all these sources, all the quarterbacks weighing in, setting up the balls a certain way has always been accepted and nobody ever says shit, regardless of the letter of the rule. And now the Colts got embarrassed and everyone hates Belichick so they rolled this out there. It's similar to Johnny Evers and Bonehead Merkle. I hope the outcome won't be the same.
