You're wrong, dumbfuck. I don't need to look shit up. I know what I'm talking about.

You are both right, I guess. Brett was initially called out, but, on appeal, the home run eventually counted.

They knew the allegations but no one had proof besides the Colts player in the regular season game getting the ball but obviously the league couldn't act on that.

They waited for a turnover, the Colts checked, and then the league checked them all at half time. They wanted to catch them in the act.

No, he's wrong. Brett wasn't out and the homer counted and they replayed the game from there. I know you know that. Nice touch by Billy appealing the baserunning though.

Do you know what self-delusional means? You need to retake sports history 101. Maybe there is a remedial sports message board that you can post to that would overlook your stupidity, but not here.

What to me makes this bad is the officials prior to the game had checked them and the Patriots deliberatly took the air out, how in the hell the league office doesn't do something pretty damn serious is beyond me.

Are you seriously going to keep going? This isn't some mystery we're discussing. The home run counted. Brett wasn't out. Are you daft?

The kickers that I have been around always want the old footballs that are softer and compress. They never want to kick a new ball.

No, I realize the home run counted. I am just saying that he was, in fact, initially called out by the umpire. The league president then upheld the Royals' protest.

I think most people who even have a cursuory interest in sports remember Brett going berserk, but it's pretty obvious this Rube goof has no clue what happened thereafter.

Yeah, you don't want to kick the new ball, but that's different from the amount of air.

Why are all of you people talking about footballs, when we are discussing a baseball game from July, 1983? Ha ha ha!

It will lose air if it is older and make it is easier. Dammit quit refuting my hypothesis.

The league folded on review because Brett was one of the league's most popular players. The umpires made the correct ruling on the field calling Brett out. They measured the pine tar on the bat against the plate, which is 17 inches across. The pine tar exceeded that length. This was a case where the league didn't enforce its own rule.

Baseball rule 1.10 (b) says a bat may not be covered by such a substance more than 18 inches from the tip of the handle. Joe Brinkman, the chief of the crew that umpired the game, said Brett's bat had "heavy pine tar" 19 to 20 inches from the tip of the handle and lighter pine tar for another three or four inches.

The Patriots outscored the Colts 28-0 after the deflated balls were replaced.

Take an under-inflated basketball and and over-inflated basketball and drop them on the ground - which bounces higher?

It's all about the transfer of energy, Hawg-a-rooney.

Also, From PFT:

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS, “[s]ome of the Baltimore Ravens believe kicking balls used in their playoff game at New England were slightly under-inflated.” La Canfora also writes that “sources said some on Baltimore’s sideline believed there may have been irregularities with the kicking balls,” and that because “Baltimore’s kicking and punting units were not getting their normal depth and distance, and some believed the balls they were using may have been deflated.

Whatever. Glad you finally looked it up.

Martin had all the opportunity to have the bat taken out of play, but he wanted to be cute, so he waited until Brett hit that homer. And if you knew as much as I do, you would know that during the innings that were replayed, Martin did his best to make a mockery of the game, playing guys in weird positions. I think Guidry went out to center.

As far as "ignoring a rule" is concerned, I would suggest that taking runs off the board for an infraction of something as innocuous as that pine tar rule is absurd. Just like a severe punishment for a ball that had a little less air in it would be.

Billy Martin was pure entertainment. When, he was still playing ball, Mickey Mantle took him on a hunting trip (back to MM's home in OK). Mickey stopped into a farmer's home (that he knew well). He left Bill in the pickup and went in and talked to the farmer. The farm said it was ok to hunt there, but he also asked if Mickey would euthanize a lame goat in the barn that was a family pet. The farmer could not get the nerve to do it himself. Mickey agreed to do so, but also was going to prank Bill. He walked out to the PU mad and said that the damn farmer wouldn't let them hunt, so he was going to go into the barn and shoot his goat. After shooting the goat and exiting the barn, Mickey sees Bill running around the corner of the barn with a shotgun in hand. Bill says: "Let's go, I just shot two of the bastard's cows!"

I actually learned something today watching a clip of Brett explaining the pine tar incident 30 years later. He maintained that the bat was not illegal and that the league commish was correct for upholding the protest, resulting in the home run being reinstated and in the Royals winning the game.

I accept what Brett said and stand corrected with what happened afterwards, but I was not wrong in saying that Brett was declared out and the game was over. That was factually correct.

That bat is now in Cooperstown. Interesting story.

The higher the air pressure inside the soccer ball, the farther it will go when it is kicked, writes engineer and soccer ball enthusiast Bruce Rigsby on the site Soccer Ball World.com. Your kick transfers more energy to a stiff ball, compared to a spongy one, as less of the energy is lost to deformation of the ball's surface. Thus, the extent of air pressure in the ball affects how far it sails off your foot. The same concept applies with other inflated sports equipment: A basketball bounces lower if not inflated properly, and a bicycle tire contacts more of the road if underinflated, reducing performance.

Game, set and motherfucking match.

Come on man, nobody gives a fuck about soccer.

I'll ignore your ignorant comment about soccer and refer you to the bolded section above.

Where did the kickers that you know play ball?
