Home of the first semi video game I ever played outside of PONG.

Dont know if this thing was home built, but it now seems like something that a friend of Melmans put into the bar area.

$1.00 for 3 innings of baseball.

2 controllers. 1 to pitch and 1 to hit. Could choose FAST, SLOW, CURVE.

The Screens were high on the wall so everyone could see you play. They were just decorated plexiglass with lights behind it to indetify the path of the ball. Then had a scoreboard.

Guessing a JORR stop in !

It was on Lincoln Park West, right? I know it was open late. When I worked at a restaurant as a kid we used to go there sometimes after we closed up. After it closed I think they tried another place at Elston and Fullerton maybe?

Yes, we on LPW, dont know about the Late night, way too young, we went with my Gramps many times.

It was Lettuce Entertain You / Melman. Dixie Que is I believe what you speak of, my uncle invested in it. We went a bunch of time for dinner as a kid. Didnt really know BBQ back then, might have been good? maybe before its time. Really went for that memphis BBQ thing.

All Evanston people lament the demise of Fanny's. I'm pretty sure they still sell the spaghetti sauce and maybe salad dressing somewhere.

I didnt care if we went or not, but the stepdad loved the place. always had the sauce at home. Did a ton of BONES, LOUS and Great Godfrey Daniels as a kid.

Carry in was Michelinis and Mustards. Stepfather and Uncle had their buisiness in the building with the parking lot across the street from the Evanston Theatre. Had the lifetime free pass and worked the lot for NU football games! The locations was perfect for the MUSTARDS delivery to the office that was brought home for dinner once a week.

I had forgotten about Great Godfrey Daniels. Was it where E.J.'s is now?

Every Evanston guy also loves Dave's Italian Kitchen, except me. I've never liked that place. Every fifteen years or so it moves. When it was on Church Street a bunch of my friends worked there. Did you ever go to the World's Largest Garage Sale? They used to offer free parking in the Dominick's lot across the street from Dave's. The Saturday of the garage sale one year a couple of my friends were working at Dave's and it was slow so they made a sign that said "GARAGE SALE PARKING $2.00". They made nearly fifty bucks before the cops chased them away.

No GGD but we were regularly at Bones and Lou's in my youth. Bones was great stuff. My brother met Melman one time and asked him why he changed it. He said the old people from Lincolnwood would order one rack of ribs for two people then gourge on the free stuff for two hours before leaving with their meal in a doggie bag

When he first changed it to L Woods they didn't sell ribs, but the old neighborhood crew cried so much he had to put them back on the menu.

You guys are probably too young to remember when that was the Kenilworth Inn, but do you remember Elliot's Pine Log just up Lincoln?

only by name, as my grandma talked about the place

The place I loved as a kid on Lincoln in Lincolnwood was The Ground Round. They played cartoons, you could throw peanuts and food seemed good as a kid. I won a 6 foot high Christmas stocking stuffed with toys in a contest there as well.

Deepest love for the Ground Round. Plus they had the sundaes in the mini-batting helmets. I collected them all pre-expansion. There's still one in Tomah, WI and we stopped there awhile back but it's not the same. Beige and Applebees'ish.

Grew up in Evanston; Fanny's was a family favorite. Endless spaghetti and fried chicken. As I recall they had two dining rooms; kind of like flying you needed a jacket for the main room but they had spares in case you showed up with out.

I think it actually was on Simpson, maybe a block or two off Green Bay Rd.

Wilmette ave and Ridge dont know whats there now.

Mallinkrodt was for sale about 15 years agao when I worked for the worlds worst human being. He once donated $100,000 to Loyola Medical, who owned the property and thus felt they should be selling him the property for well below market. lol

They had a bid package to deliver offers. he has me put the whole thing together with an offer for $10 mill. Because he was such a weasel he sets up a meeting for me to deliver the offer to some board member he knows.

I bring it to the guy who opens it and asks me if this is a joke, as they already had 3 offers north of $20 mill for the building and all the land behind it. The guy starts to get mad at me, then realizes its not my idea, he apologizes and asks me to wait, he is going to have a letter typed for me to bring back.

I never got to read the letter that ended my full day of preparing a bid, but I did hear the asshole I work for bitching to his wife, who volunteered one day a week at Loyola medical center "You are never going to give those fucking assholes another moment of your free time!!!"
