One of the mock drafts sites I read had the Bears picking him in the 4th round.

That same mock draft had players in a position where the Bears could potentially select -

1st - Collins, S
2nd - McKinney, LB
3rd - Ekpre-Olomu, CB
4th - Petty, QB

That would be a pretty excellent start, IMO. That mock actually had the Bears taking TCU LB Paul Dawson in the 2nd. He seems like more of a high floor guy. I'd rather have McKinney who they have going 2 spots later. I still say McKinney goes in the mid-1st after he rockets in the combine.

TJ Yeldon was also available in that mock 2nd. I'm curious if he would intrigue John Fox. I like Yeldon.

It will be interesting to see what happens with that Bears first pick. Everybody assumes D. But, Fox might want a road-grader to run behind like Andrus Peat. The Bears did scout a couple Stanford games. You could probably still get a S like Drummond from MSU in the 3rd round.

I'm interested in Marcus Peters. He's the best cover CB and probably overall CB in the draft. Sure, he got kicked off UW's team for strangling a coach on the sideline but you need guys with that kind of edge. He's likely to be there in the 2nd round and he's a top 15 talent overall.

I like Yeldon a lot also, but he has always been banged up. Not a guy that has stayed healthy in college, even in part time duty.

It is far too early to be projecting rounds for these guys.

I am in agreement on the OT first round pick. I really think the Bears are in need of an immediate impact replacement there and a developmental upgrade at C.

The good thing about having a high draft pick is you get those guys with first round talent with your second rounder.

Well, that's no fun.

I think Hroniss Grasu might be available in the 3rd if you want a C. He'd be a nice piece to fit into the line.

A line with -

Bushrod
Slauson
Grasu
Long
Peat

- would look really nice.

I think the Bears could really help themselves with this draft. Of course, they have a lot of needs so it would be hard not to upgrade.

As bad as their safety play was, how could they pass on Collins if he was there?

I don't watch college football, so I have no idea on these players.
What I do know is drafting for position increases the risk of drafting a player that does not play on Sundays. The Bears have too many holes to be greedy. they need to draft based on these players being able and ready to play in the NFL.

They probably can't. But, something in my gut tells me this is too high for him.

He struggles in pass coverage against top-tier teams. You might be able to find a decent S later and fill another need here. With Fox, he might be looking to rebuild the O-line right away which is harder to find in later rounds.

Basically the Packers whole offensive line was 3rd round or later guys, with the exception of Bulaga who was a 1st rounder and will be gone after this year.

Bears need a defensive leader and captain to anchor the team for the next 10 years. Preferably at the MLB position.

I'd say they are the exception more than the rule.

The Cowboys have at least 3 first-rounders on their line.

Yes, the last 3 years they have drafted O-lineman with their 1st pick.

I would also not entirely discount development by Vereen.

I would probably be more inclined to go veteran at safety and pair a FA up with Mundy, who I thought was competent this year. Then let Vereen continue development without the trial by fire.

Here's the Bears home run draft -

1st - Dante Fowler, DE///, Florida
2nd - Cody Prewitt, S, Ole Miss
3rd - Daryl Williams, RT, Oklahoma

7th - Jeff Luc, ILB, Cincy

Fill in my Adam Hoge draft later.

I love when we are on the same page.

What is the link to those draft generators from last year? I remember starting the combine season getting Aaron Donald in the second but couldn't even get him in the first by draft day.

The first 2 picks would be great! From reading up on all the edge rush guys in the first round, Fowler is the one I want. The kid from Nebraska sounds great but will probably be gone by 7.

What is the story on Luc? From the things I have read it seems it should go higher than 7th round

Luc might end up going higher. He's just a big 2-down LB that can stuff the run and is pretty bad dropping into coverage. So, pull him out on 3rd downs.

Some people say his a little on the fat side and could balloon up. It doesn't seem that way to me.

Not a draft expert but I'd love him on the Bears.

Obviously not with the 7th pick but I'd take him in the second round.

yeah I would too. I think he is going to be a good pro.

I just did the draft simulator thing from the other thread and he was available in the 3rd round. I would think he would be a steal there.

I think he'll be pretty good. I also think he's a guy that could drop to the 3rd or 4th.

He seems pretty solid, physically, and I think he's a good all-around guy running and catching out of the backfield.

What's he probably run, like a 4.5? If he runs in the 4.4s, he'll probably go in the high-2nd round would be my guess.

I cannot find anything on his 40 time. One sight projected his 40 time as 4.6

Yeah, a 4.6 is probably going to drop him to the 4th, maybe even lower with guys like Duke Johnson or Cobb moving up so far from these workouts/practices. 4.6 is pretty slow. He'd be a real nice pick down there, though.

Just looking back the past couple years for similar guys.

Montee Ball ran a 4.66 and went in the late 2nd.

Joseph Randle ran a 4.63 and went in the 5th.

This is a better year for RBs than that Gio Bernard year though (2013), I think. If he runs that slow, he's going to drop to the 4th I'd bet.

Impressed by David Johnson, rb from N. Iowa; could be a more athletic version of Forte. Do not know if he can break tackles though :D

The qb from SE Louisiana had a 49.5 completion % this year and he made the Senior Bowl?

He was a last minute replacement on Wednesday when the QB they invited decided he's a better CB than QB and switched.

That was Nick Marshall from Auburn that switched right? He looked decent at CB except for that pass interference call late in the game. Enjoyed the game and the commentators, but god were the QBs horrible. After Winston and Mariota, not much available for the beloved to go after.
