$1.1 mill, puts him as the lowest paid GM in the league. Emery made $2M+

Tons of reasons can be floated, but facts are facts.

Gotta cut corners somewhere. But George and ted wanted the best man possible. I'm sure cost didn't play into it.

Cant help thinking that Ted saw a chance to get the young guy who will take the least money. Not that it is the main reason he is hired, but cant help but think it was a feather in his cap.

If he is making less than Sweaty and reports to Sweaty how does he have autonomy from Sweaty.

He doesnt, its the same structure as it was before.

Unless you think Teddy was making picks or had input on players, which I never thought Ted had any real part of. Sweaty for the football budget into the overall budget and then, when bigger choices needed to be made, he interjected his 52 cents.

never though Teddy cared about having anything to do with signing players. Its a hard job and odds are you wont be good at it, you could even be fired for it, you know Ted doesnt want his fingerprints on anything that could lose that gig for him.

I don't even know why Pace would accept that. He must be pretty desperate.

Can't remember which show was reporting it, but Pace was allegedly making 450K in NO so it was a nice jump in pay and a step up for him. NO offered him 700K to stay.

That's probably the real reason ballard said no... not this phony baloney re-organizational crap that got floated around.... there are only 32 of these jobs so really the owners should only have to fork out big $$ after a few years when you find out the guy you hired actually knows what he is doing...

1.1 million for an NFL GM. Moves like this are why Ted remains Bears President even though they have zero titles.

Seems like a low pay day for what the job entails... especially for the "flag ship franchise".

In general, I do not think first time GM's jump in at huge millions. Also, this isn't the real world in that pretty common that coaches and players make more than the GM.

It is common for coaches to make more than GM's, but remember the mantra of hiring someone to oversee everything, includng Ted. Ted even said he would move over if it was needed.

Well, you cant hire that guy if you dont interview that guy. Was their any intention of really hiring a football czar? That guy makes more than Ted, the coach and the GM.

The deal is done, the guy isnt going to work less because he is making the least dollars of any other GM, hope he does well and Ted and George sit back and tell us all how smart they are.

I'm shocked it is that low. At least 2 mil per season. I don't think the Bears are cheap, but Pace is getting the shaft for past financial blunders.

Interesting. It looks like Fox has a pretty low salary for a head coach, despite his experience.

Rozner put it best before the Pace hiring. Dan informed him that george and ted said the management structure would be rearranged if they found the right guy. Barry said they may say that but do you think they will actually do it?

Now.....if you interview one guy who tells you your management structure won't work for him and one guy who says "Sounds good to me", who gets hired?

Mully reported the $1.1 M salary from his sources, which I think are real and he stated that to the best of his knowledge there is not a GM in the league making less than $1M . Thought Todd Licht was making $1M working with Lovie.

Need the whole story please. Maybe Pace wanted his compensation heavily weighted toward performance bonus giving him the potential, if he delivers, to earn more than Emery?

He turned down an interview for the Jets, doubt he is desperate.

mully said pace made $700K in New Orleans. Maybe salary goes up over the length of the deal.

Right. They hired a junior guy who was fine reporting to Phillips. I don't know why bernstein is hitting the "Pace is in full command" thing so hard. Obviously, he doesn't have the autonomy to do whatever he wants. Hell, he didn't even hire the coach according to Accorsi himself.

Too early to say. I'll hold off the control related bitching for when a sure winner signing comes up.
