What matters is they weren't having fun. Everyone else is laughing and riding and cornholing except Butler.

But if you are a basketball fan, you enjoy watching basketball, regular season or playoff games. Sports are fun to watch. Winning a championship is just a bonus.

Do I really have to type in capitals here?

Its his out and he uses it every time and I'm shocked that he hasn't been called on it before. Actually I'm not because they rarely talk to "real" NBA guys on his show. Only (1) No. 4 seed has ever won the NBA championship. THere has also only been (1) No. 6 seed that has won the championship. No (7) and (8) seeds have ever won. There has only been (7) No. 3 seeds that have won. (10) No. 2 seeds have won while (48) No. 1 seeds have won the championship. There has never been a No. (5) seed that has won. This notion that you can simply rest players during the regular season yet still win an NBA championship is pure and utter bullshit. The Spurs did it while maintaining a No. 1 seed status. Let's see if they can do it this yr as they hover around a 5 or 6 seed. Bernstein and others have promoted this as a way of excusing themselves from actually having to watch the games. The regular season does matter. There are a lot of reasons that it matters. It astounds me that he has been allowed to spew this bullshit without someone calling him on it.

Call that in.
I actually will when I listen and here him say it again. I want to call him on it as he is doing it rather than introduce it for that particular day. I've called him over the yrs both when he had his own show and while he has had a show with Boers. I've disagreed with him on a few things. He hasn't shouted me down because he recognizes my name or the voice. I think overall he respects my thoughts but this will be a little different because this a fundamental Bernsteinian belief. I took him to task about some of the Lebron love and expected a shout down. Didn't get it though.

Berns likes NBA basketball. Why wouldn't he enjoy watching regular season games? Doesn't make any sense.
It's obvious he doesn't really watch the game that much.

You're kind of missing the point. By saying that the regular season doesn't matter you are implying that an 8 th seed can win the championship once the get to the playoffs. That has never happened. The regular season determines who the better teams are thus it matters.

No, I agree with you. I'm just trying to plot out what Dan thinks, where everything ultimately comes down to a simple declaration of "they're good at basketball" or "they're bad at basketball" irrespective of outcomes.

My bad I misread that. Yep I think those statements are also made because he doesn't really watch the game. Its lazy. He pops up around finals time issues a few proclamations from the mount and expects people to respect him as an authority on the game. I stopped listening as much once I figured that part of his show out.

Thibs is a good coach, but maybe there's a reason he's bounced from team to team...this seems like an awful lot of moving around. Almost Trestman-like.

1989–1991
Minnesota Timberwolves (assistant)

1992–1994
San Antonio Spurs (assistant)

1994–1996
Philadelphia 76ers (assistant)

1996–2003
New York Knicks (assistant)

2003–2007
Houston Rockets (assistant)

2007–2010
Boston Celtics (assistant)

2010–present
Chicago Bulls

How much of that was due to the head coach being fired? At least a few of those were due to head coaching changes.

Yeah I am guessing most assistants coaching stops look like that.

How To Watch Super Bowl XLIX

By Dan Bernstein

CBS Chicago Senior Columnist

The following is my updated, annual viewing guide, since everything still applies, perhaps more so than ever.

America’s largest secular holiday .

First, the Super Bowl is not a holiday.

Second, how can a holiday be 'large'?

Third, almost all U. S. holidays (New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving) are secular. And I would argue that Easter and Christmas have become mostly secular (chocolates, bunnies, exchanging gifts aren't in any scripture). I've reached the AARP club, so not sure if this is still true, but both Halloween and St. Patrick's Day were just one continuous party in certain sections of town -- far bigger than anything on Super Bowl Sunday.

If a caller made such a statement, Danny would, no doubt, asked "Do you the meaning of holiday or secular"". Terry would have laughed with, "You know, I did go to a party, you know, a party that had this theme, and but anyway I was talking before the show and Dan you are right, people just don't realize what has happened that some guy can well, you know, that you just go ahead but nowadays, the party, well I just can't and I won't"

thibs is the best coach in chicago. you gotta be fucking stupid to think hes the problem. teams go through lulls all the time. the cavs did it this year and a few good games in a row now all is forgotten. and the bulls arent even in a lull right now. they do one thing they shouldnt- play to their competition. im sure pax feels that is ok, and thibs cant stand it. oh well. they are both pros and will work through it because nobody wants to play the bulls in the playoffs.

He's often said he doesn't like watching the NFL with people. Cuz everybody is yelling meatball thoughts and they're drunk and he wants to concentrate on the game.

I get drunk and have great football thoughts though.

I can honestly say that I've never attended a Super Bowl party where guests were using the wrong wine glasses.

Don't bet. Give the money to charity.

I have no problem with Robin. He knows how to write names on a lineup card as well as anyone.

Well, filling out the lineup card is the easy part of the job. Robin lights up the room though!

Bulls were 10-point favorites. Pretty sure that was the consensus everywhere.
