Jimmy, you remember an Italian place on Rand Road just south of Palatine Road called Bimbo's? My grandparents used to take me there.

I remember the name but I might be getting it confused with another place in Park Ridge or Niles called Booby's. A popular place where Hillary Clinton once celebrated her birthday with some old friends.

here you go:

The Comeback Inn was our place. Mrs. Scorehead and I went here on our very first date. Many of Melrose Park's gangsters kids hung out here too.

INCREDIBLE LIST! JORR will spend his afternoon reading it!!!!!!!!!!

Got tons of memories of those places. Kingmans Landing! Still have a menu and T shirt signed by Kingman, my cousin was his partner! Went there a ton!

The one that is amazing to me is PEACOCKS! It was on Skokie Boulevard, just S of Old Glenview Road and that was our place to go. We would walk there, ride, etc. After games, you name it. Classic old time ice cream place and food. didnt think it would get any type of recognition, more local and unknown.

Sally's stage.

Waitresses on roller skates and silent movies narrated by a live piano player. Good times

I feel, really old saying a place like the como inn. Good Italian food with different themed rooms. It seemed like the place everyone went before bulls and Blackhawks games

Wasn't Bimbo's up more towards Dundee, maybe near the McDonalds near Rand and Dundee?

That's a great little site! I went to plenty of those places. There are even a couple I didn't know were closed like Parse's and Max's Beef on Western. Where the fuck am I going to get my ghetto fries now???

What was your cousin thinking in partnering with the most unlikeable Cub in history to open a restaurant? He would have been better off with DeJesus' Landing.

Yes! You're right. I said Palatine Road when I meant Dundee Road in Palatine. I believe it's now a USBank branch, but what isn't?

A List is one thing, but to give me back a photo of the Peacocks sign and a Kingmans landing....that some top 5 stuff!

Just love that you mention Wags. Gonna say I had 2 milkshakes there in my lifetime. went probably at the end of the WAGS thing. Dont think I ever saw anyone else in there eating or anything. You went to Walgreens to get candy, not to sit down for a meal.

Let me include "Hot Dg Island" and even though it is still there,,,,SARKIS

MAX's just closed maybe in last 6 months, they just had thr auction for all their stuff within past 2 weeks. They took all the metal sculpture for themselves.

My cousin was great friends with Kingman, the guy was always extra nice to me, still have the bat, ball, glove, jersey. They owned a boat together and he sold Kingman a ton of cars over the years. Fixed up classics, etc. They also owned some car dealerships in California.

Jimmy's Hot Dogs (Euclid & NW Highway, a dog leg par 5 from home) closed a couple years ago. It's replacement has been slowly taking shape since then. I think it will be called Angies. Their owners apparently have a good sense of humor.

1st banner: "We will be open before the Cubs win the World Series."

New banner (up in the last week or two): "We will be open before Cutler throws his next interception. Thank God for the Blackhawks."

I hope the food is as good as the humor

Jimmy's! When I was little, I used to go there after Saturday morning swimming lessons at Olympic.

The old chef and a friend of mine from Bimbo's has a joint up in the Dell's. It's called R Place and Don Rich is the owner he has been in the Dells fro 20 years after having been at Bimbo's for over 20. He still makes all the Italian favorites. If your up that way stop in for a great meal and be sure to mention Bimbo's.

Jimmy's was my lunch standard after Saturday morning bowling at old Brunswick Northwest by the track.

There was a pizza place in the big shopping center that used to be on Kensington and Dryden...where the Jewel used to be...that was another favorite stop in the days of my youth.

Great site:

http://www.craigslostchicago.com/lost-eateries.php

Looking through this brought back a whole bunch of memories...I remember Down the Hatch on Algonquin....back when I was a kid I used to get a postcard in the mail for a free pizza in the month of my birthday...5 year old me thought that was awesome.

I wish I could remember some of the cavalcade of restaurants that used to be on Rand Road...the only one that stands out is Armando Q's. Italian place...had a weird lighthouse thing at the front entrance. Food was good and they had a banquet room in the basement...I remember a handful of family parties there. I think it was about 3 or 4 different restaurants after that closed, but the last one I remember was a Polish restaurant that lasted all of like 6 months...I dad and stepmom lived in the apartment complex next door, and I think she was the only one that liked that place.

Remeber Captain Rapps on Northwest Highway? That place was always decent.
