I'll wait for the sure-to-come superfluous Beardown thread I guess, but Bernstein was over the moon with this hire. You can't teach smart, he said.

Yeah, hard to paint this as a victory for #TeamVERYSMARTRADIO...the way he gushed about Mannelly you would have though Bernstein hand picked him.

EXACTLY! #TeamSmartDukies got derailed. They're I the entertainment business folks. While I respected what Mannelly brought to the table in the firm of insight and connections to modern day Bears players - he was about to go off the rails during NHL, NBA, NCAA hoops and baseball season

Mannelly's failure makes Bernstein look foolish - as he was a HUGE proponent of it

I'm not sure if bernstein really liked Mannelly, but he could barely hide his glee that Mac was gone. If Mac returns it's a definite loss for Team bernstein.

The Bernstein Tree took another hit on this one. You can't teach smart, and you can't teach interesting, either.

Let's just look at this from a business stand point. Doesn't matter what anybody thinks. Zim and Mitch have hitched their wagon to Bernstein. He is the Score's brand.

Spiegel told Chicago that Bernstein made up Bears reports. Hurting the brand. Spiegel is gone.

I'll bet Mannelly's contract was through the Super Bowl. That's why he is done now. That was easy and clean for THE SCORE. They got him for saying he wanted to hit Bernstein and challenging Bernstein on his bogus Bears reports.

Maybe they have to wait until Spiegel's contract expires to do him.

Maybe just maybe, like the Bears recently, Mitch & Zim have finally realized that they cant continue doing business this way. Maybe they realize that Berns has poisoned the young guys at the station & has a negative impact on morale and teamwork? Maybe not. But I can hope.
I am really really hoping that Mitch hires Kap & Haugh!

Now I think I've got it.

It was Zimmerman that leaked the bogus "Score is pursuing Kap and Haugh" to Feder.

Why? Leverage. He wants Mac to read that so he can keep the price down. If Mac wants to fight, Zim will just say "I'll just get fuckin' Kap and Haugh Indiana boy."

Mac can't afford to call his bluff. He's in no position.

Zim: Take it or leave it, Mac. If you leave it Kap and Haugh are hired 2 minutes from now. They're both on speaker phone listening with their fingers crossed.

Mac: You wouldn't get those dip shits. Did you hear me boys? Dip shits!!! Bernstein hates them anyway, Zim. Thinks they're both stupid and/or meatballs. No way your gonna piss off your golden boy with those hires.

Zim: Try me. Bernstein hates you and thinks you're a meatball, by the way.

Mac: Good point. Alright. Deal.

I bet Pat probably just hated the daily grind of radio. I mean, 5 days of this crap must drive you crazy. Watching sports and talking sports becomes your whole life. Much easier to do part time work doing pre game. Plus you have to deal with mentally unstable people at the station IE Bernstein

I'm guessing that about midway through the 2nd overtime vs the Lakers Mannelly realized that he wasn't cut out for it. He knew that he had to become more well-rounded on the other teams and gave it a try. Ultimately bad Bulls basketball killed his will to go on.

Why does every thread turn into a Bernstein bash session? Does anyone seriously think Mannelly's decision was driven by his interaction with Bernstein? I give him more credit than that.

I'm with Grid.

Although it is weird that Mac comes back now, in the middle of basketball. Maybe he's looking forward to baseball season...

Bernsie can't be happy about Pat being gone.

As I have stated before, Mannelly's admission of NEVER have been to the United Center for a game completely turned me off. That means he had zero interest in the Bulls or Blackhawks. The lack of personality was running a close second as reasons for my dislike of the show.

Mitch should be fired. He makes mistake after mistake and bad hire after bad hire. Meatpants, Snapper, who's next?

He is not going anywhere. As long as Mitch is bringing Zim $20+ mil in billing, can't be fired.

it's funny, we grew up without a TV until just before high school, so most of my afternoons were in front of the radio listening to Bob Uecker and at night I was tuned into WBBM for the Blackhawks...but it didn't translate. I'm a MLB/NBA guy now, with a little premiership thrown in...

Snapper: "Football is my passion..."

He admitted the other sports aren't as enjoyable for him to cover. (I'm paraphrasing)

So basically he doesn't care about other sports enough to do it, which we all kinda knew going in. Oh well, he tried, at least he's not an ass.
