My question is why would Belichick not call timeout in the last minute?

I thought they had one left.

I wonder if Caroll was expecting Belichick to call time out there and it led to a rushed insanely bad play call

Terrible call. You dont worry about setting yourself up with 2 downs and a timeout in that situation. There's 30 seconds left, you just do your best to score

Another game where coaching makes a difference. He was beat on the same play in practice.
