Standing 6' 1/2" - 270 lbs. (!) Aged 30 yrs.

Goal is to lose 60 to 80 pounds. Workout routine will consist of running and Denise Austin tapes. The tape is 30 minutes with the 3 min cardio and 1 min weights.

Normally around 225 lbs. and had low lowest grown weight of 185 lbs. when my complete diet consisted of coffee, cigarettes, and Guinness. They were good times. Best of luck to those invovled and skipping meals for beer is a proper substitute by my diet standards.

Is beer considered alcohol?

I'm starving. There is an unopened bag of chips on the kitchen counter and salsa in the fridge. I'm drinking water with some lime slices for flava. Burrito as hell.

Height: 5' 8" (at least I used to be, I think I'm shrinking already)

Weight: This morning the scale said 208 (highest I've ever been). Last week the scale wasn't working (it said I was 218) but my wife said it's working right now.

Age: 35

My problems are: 1) I sit on my ass all day at work, 2) I don't have that much time to exercise. By the time dinner is over and then getting the kids to bed, it's almost 9:00 and I certainly don't feel like excersing at that time, and 3) I'm a sucker for junk food. Plus with it being so close to Halloween, there's too much candy around. I can't let my three and four year old eat that much candy so I sacrifice myself for their well being.

6' 3", 203 lbs, age 47. I would not mind breaking 200 - I've knocked on the door a few times but haven't broken through (at least since I was 7 or something).

BTW beer, at least for me, is a terrific muscle relaxent. I admire those that say they won't drink until the holidays. During Bears season that is impossible for me. So I am not drinking until Sunday.

My problem is that I am generally disciplined for 90% of the day (eat oatmeal or wheaties for breakfast, lean deli-type sandwich for lunch, fairly healthy dinner, and workout 5-6 times per week), but then I completely blow it at the end of the day. I'll end up snacking around 11pm while I'm watching TV before bed. It's such a terrible habit, and I know this, but still struggle with it anyway. Plus, I'm a terrible sleeper, and if I go to bed hungry, I'll just lay there for half the night with no chance at all of falling asleep. It sucks because if I could stop eating garbage at night, I might actually make some real progress considering what I do from 8am to 9pm.

I think I'm going to start drinking 1-2 glasses of red wine in the evening, while I'm unwinding. I'm not sure what else to do. Part of the problem is that I workout late in the day, then eat a late dinner afterwards, and my body just burns it right up. I'm hungry again within an hour or two after eating dinner.

Not a big wine guy but will give it a shot. Looking for some recommendations. What's your favorite red? Dial-it-up!

If you can get red from South Africa, I highly recommend it.
quite good...

I ususally just buy a Mondavi, otherwise...

Eating until bed is fine as long as you skip breakfast.

I know that Ditka has a kickass red, but I can't remember the name right now. It's on the tip of my tongue...

Never seen this endorsed before. Doesn't skipping breakfast slow your metabolism? And isn't going to sleep right after eating a ticket to chubbsville?

Some ideas:
1. Don't buy the junk food and instead of snacking after dinner drink water and go for a walk. If you must snack, then put a small portion on a plate rather than eating out of the bag.
2. Eat dinner a little earlier; gives your body a chance to settle down before going to bed.
3. Skip the nightly wine idea. Alcohol has calories. Save the wine for Friday nights.
4. Finish your night by reading instead of watching TV. TV gets some peoples' brains revved up. Reading might help you fall asleep easier.

Bucket,
That's why I don't like evening work-outs.
I'd be all jacked up and hungry before I went to bed.
I tried drowning the hunger with gallons of water, only to wake up to go piss 3 times a night and having a hard time going back to bed. I tried snacking on almonds, and energy bars with limited results.
This shake/smoothie worked best for me. It's very filling.
It's supposed to be high in protein, and help repair your muscles while you sleep.

1 ripe soft banana
1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
1/2 cup cranberry juice
1 raw egg (I used equivalent qty. of egg beaters)
4-5 frozen strawberries (raspberries have too many seeds)
1 cup of ice

Put it all in a blender on high for about 30 seconds.
It comes out pink and actually fairly tasty.
Couple times I thought about adding tequilla or rum to it.

Not a big soy guy. Can I just use regular milk instead, or does that throw the whole thing off?

Someone else recommended eating a small dinner before workout. I'd also recommend a protein shake after your workout right away and if you insist to eat dinner after the workout, have a small dinner about an hour after the shake.

I'm pretty sure that's one the key protein components.
The vanilla flavor eliminates that taste that I don't like in regular soy juice.
My kids actually now prefer it in their oreo shakes.

I'm sure you get the same affect from the powder protein shakes, I just liked this better because of the fresh ingredients that you can tweak to your liking, and you don't get bloated and gassy.

I would think you could sub milk in this. Soy vs. Regular milk has the same protein in it. You could also use whey protein powder to give the vanilla flavor. There are a couple of brands I've used and liked. Designer Protein is one as is ON Ultimate Whey. Designer you can find at Jewel. The other is typically at health food stores.

If I were a single man, I'd just flip on some porn and jerk it before bed each night. Nothing better to relax the muscles after a good work out.

Do it as a married man, and you'll get single real quick.
It's a win win.
