In the Hot Doug's space. From the guys behind Phil's/Fatso's. Damn good char dog. Certainly as good as anything I ever had from Doug. Great fried shrimp too. No line. Go figure. I saw some guy put his elbows on the counter and try to engage the counterman in conversation. I could tell he missed Doug. Very sad.

Fatsos runs a really good place. 9/10 on the quality and service. The get the orders in and prepare quickly. Its the art of hot dog stand perfected by a Jeff Mages in the early 90's at Irvings Hot Dogs in Wilmette when running 16 locations.

Taking over that space, I think you had to some some sausages beyond the polish and italian

They have a little card on the wall with, I guess, a daily specialty dog or two. Seems like an afterthought though, like they were throwing a bone to the Dougites.

shrimp are pretty gross. raised in shitty water pens, loaded with antibiotics to keep them alive. soaked with preservatives. bleech.

give me a good old american hot dog. can't be anything bad in that, right?

Does it have normal business hours or the same hours as Doug's which was prejudiced against people who lived in the neighborhood but had the misfortune of having jobs to go to during the day?

I think it has regular hours rather than hours for Doug's personal convenience.

I think I went to HD's 3 times during prime hours. Would blow him shit when I came in and it wasnt busy, 'Hey Sarkis!" and his response 'Buddy, Buddy"

If you never went to Sarkis, Doug was a long time fixture there at the counter. Its where I knew him from. Sarkis literally introduced me to him years ago. Then when he had his place on Roscoe, I would stop in often. when it got fame, I wasnt a wait in line guy.

Stop being scared and just go to Fatso's on Chicago Ave. It's not quite the hood so you'll be fine :D

Chicago Avenue? I don't travel down to the south side unless I have to. And yes I now consider Chicago Ave to be the south side. These days, I consider anything south of North Ave to be south side.

Thanks, gonna pick that up.

Been here a few times this month. Place is solid. Very similar to Red Hot Ranch, maybe a tad worse, but still very good. Small menu which means they can focus on a few things and do them well. mac n cheese made to order is very good. My wife had the fried shrimp and said they were excellent. The fatso burger is good, but I would stay away from the ooey gooey (a juicy lucy clone)...too much cheese, it overwhelms the burger.

And the owner Bob is a really nice guy.
